I bought some quick release side plates and sissy bar on eBay this winter and attempted an install today. Well it seems the side plates are not for an FXD but for some other model. The plates are to wide when I have the sissy bar mounted to them they measure 10-7/8" from out to out and that is about 1" to wide for my application. I suspect the side plates I have are for a wide glide.
If one of you kind folks that owns a '96-'05 FXD could you measure the dimension on yours for a comparison? A wide glide or softail dimension would also be helpful to find out what side plates I do have.
The side plates I have lock on fine without the sissy bar so I'm pretty sure they must be Dyna side plates.
you say the side plates mount up fine? perhaps the sissy bar is to wide?
Agree - if the side plates mount fine then the upright is wrong - mount the plates and measure how far apart they are, then look for the right upright.
