SE120R install in the FXDX
A new dyna didn't appeal to me. I don't like any of the models available compared to a FXR or FXDX. Even then at best it would be a 103. Even though the FXDX had only 10K miles on it, I figured it was time to try a build. I bought the bike last year late in the season with only 9K miles. The TC95 was powerful, but no 120R
The 120R price was right. It was put out by HD as a lost leader to fight the S&S big bores. Its demand has been high, more so than they originally thought and the back log grew. Since then they raised the price and I expect to to go up gain at the end of the year.
gas mileage isn't something to brag about especially in town traffic. HWY it really bumps up though.Plenty of power. Doesn't get hot - about the same as my 96 in the RK. Its loves to rip down the freeway. Never need to downshift unless you go below 50-55. My buddy toyed with me with his hopped up sportster. Its fast too - about equal with my old 95. He downshifted at about 55 into 4th and I just nailed it in 5th (5 speed) I just walked away from him and I weigh about 75 pounds more than him
He won't do it again he says. It is a real pain at low speeds though. The street by my house has construction with a 25 mph limit for about 2-3 miles. It doesn't like that of course. At 25 its turning abut 3000 in 1st and about 2200 in 2nd. 2200 its doesn't like so I roar in 1st. Like a wild mustang it bucks and snorts . The motor wants a load and purrs when it has one. Without one it becomes a bit jerky. I have heard its typical for something this large and hyper. I know my 110 doesn't act this bad, but its pretty mild. In heavy slow traffic it takes more effort to ride than my RK. The RK can just putt and float down the road. Throttle control is easy on the RK. The Dyna requires a lighter touch and more attention.
This could be the high range cams which want the engine turning higher RPMs. My 95 with the S&S 585 cams was similar, but not this intense. Its like you have the same volume ****, but now the max volume is 4x higher. A small turn makes a big impact. The power resolution is coarser. This isn't a comparison against other hyped motors (117, 124's etc), but a data point verses like my pretty stock RK or the 95 the bike originally had. Also it is the 51mm SE carb, which is known to be like this.
Give it some space, open it up and its hard to wipe that ear to ear grin off your face.
The clutch setup is great, doesn't slip, is easy to pull and easy to control.
The gas mileage is disappointing, but I got a heavy hand and I also think it is running a bit rich. At the next oil change I going to have them rejet it. They have all the jets that came with the carb
Using the K325 air filter which really is required here does affect ones right leg. It really sticks out, but it comes with the territory.
The LSR-II's are LOUD. At least to me. My buddy said if I'm cruising its fine, but if I jump on it, it really barks. Forget tunes. Thats one thing I wouldn't mind changing some day.

Having the EFI too lean can cause heating.,
