Unfortunately I have to wear prescription glasses and the only goggles I've found that fit over them are huge. I'm kind of biased and feel my WG is so good looking I could hang a continental kit on the back and it would still look great. So, the windshield is very functional for me.

When I was younger I would never have considered a shield, but the few times I've ridden mine without I just got beat to death. I rented a FB in Palm Springs a month ago, it didn't have a windshield and again, I felt beat at the end of the day. Maybe it's an age thing.

In Oregon the bugs are harsh in the Summer, and the Winters are very cold. A bunch of us live in the outskirts of town and so find a quick disconect windscreen a must. But during the spring ride without and enjoy both. Long halls over three or four hundred miles almost require some sort of screen. The hardware for quick disconect screens are not really noticable.

Hardway - is that the HD shield? If so what light setup do you have. It looks great.

I have owned 50+ bikes and I didn't use a shield until I got my 02 wide glide. I now have 70+k on "Ruby" and wouldn't think of riding without the shield but then I am also now one of those old farts, 59. The shield and the AeroVest make riding so comfy that I wear no goggles or face shield, just my regular prescription glasses and get NO tearing and can actually hear traffic around me.and, my chin doesn't freeze in cold weather ---jack

The bags are Cruiseliner by National Cycle. They do require a little bit of custom work to get them on right. The passing lamps and windscreen are by HD. Thanks for the nods.

Not No, but hell NO!

ORIGINAL: haksaw

the guys that voted no should post their mileage in the last year...If you'redoing a fair bitof hwy riding you'll want it. If you're riding to hooters to show off your spotless bike every thurs then you don't need it.
My vote is the same as most on here. Yes, you won't regret it on the hwy. The nice thing is you don't need to weld it to the forks. Take it off when you don't feel like using it. I take mine off for rides under thirty miles.
Hak, 7500 miles from June 8th- end of Nov. Longest trip 1030 miles.75% of those miles are highway. My scoot has never been in a parking lot of a saloon and probably never will. I ain't no paper boy! [8D]

I have put 9,200 miles on my bike since March 2nd 2006 when i bought it. I wont put a winshield on my bike. On long rides and cold weather i wear a full face helmet to cut the wind noise, keep off the bugs, and i also have speakers in it for my Ipod so i stay entertained riding 300 miles down the interstate. I love my Dyna, and plan on keeping it indefinately, but if i get to a point where i find that i need a windshield, i will go and buy an electra glide or a street glide, that have a fairing and windshield.
Amen to that Jim!

I have a '98 Superglide. I bought a used factory HD (39mm forks) windshield off e-bay for less than $100.00 and one of my best purchases. This shield has the lower wind deflectors that drop down just below the knee caps that work nicely. It not a "quick removable" type but I don't consider the 5 minutes it takes to put it on or remove a problem. I live outside of Philadelphia, PA. and so I like the shield for winter riding period. It allows me to go out and ride short of snow on the road. I had my bike out in Denver, CO. in '04 for several months thru the summer and although the weather was great there were a lot of bugs and so the shield worked great. The shield also helps with wind noise and if you wear script glasses. Rides over 1.5-2 hours its on. Welcome to the site.

I put a windvest on my bike for a while and I thought it sucked. It did what it was supposed to, so it wasn't the product that sucked, it actually worked really well for how small it was. It just wasn't me. I was happier getting beat up by wind. I felt like I was forcing my bike to be something it wasn't with the windshield.

For long rides and interstate, I wouldn't be without mine. I like to take it off in the summer around town, ect, but in the winter it stays on.

I also have the trouble with wearing prescription eyeglasses that others have described. It kind of limits what you can or cannot do as far as eyewear/protection.

I hope to get Lasik done next year. I figure 25 years of wearing glasses is enough.
