Default Question about the V&H twin slash slip ons I just installed?

Hey All,

Just replaced the Rush slip ons I had on my '11 FXDC because they were a little too loud for my liking. Talked to my dealer and the parts guy told me the V&H twin slash slip ons were a bit quieter than the Rush and he offered me a "mail order" price for them so I got them and installed them today. When I got thru and fired up the bike, I could have sworn that I accidently re-installed my old Rush slip ons and had to double take a look at them just to be sure but not the pipes on there were the V&H and they were actually louder than my Rush pipes. I took the bike up to the dealer and had the guy who sold them to me come out and listen and he told me we must have had a mis-communication and that he never told me they would be quieter than the Rush pipes. I never get upset easily but now I was getting rather hot and it wasn't the weather causing it and it was rather hot here in Tulsa today but it's the first time I've truly been upset at this dealership. I told him that I was going home and packing them up and putting my old Rush pipes back on because they were quieter than the V&H were. About 15 minutes later the guy calls and said he talked with V&H in Dallas and they would send me these things called "Quiet Baffles" and they'd be here Tuesday and would I keep the pipes if these baffles helped to quiet the bike down a little. I told him I'd try it but would not guarantee anything, if it's not quieter I'm bringing the whole package back period. I'm scheduled Wednesday to have the Pro Super Tuner installed and have dyno run but if these pipes don't work I"ll have to cancel that and re-schedule for later time when I get some pipes I want to keep because the service manager said that I need the pipes on there I plan to keep at the time he installs the Super Tuner and runs the dyno.

Does all this sound up and up and on the level or am I just another person being scammed by a "usually great" dealer until now that is"? I'd appreciate some feedback from anyone who has any information about these so called "Quiet Baffles" from V&H. The only things I was able to find on searches here were either very old info or for other style Harley's like Touring or other models, nothing on Dynas at all was found.

Thanks very much for any help at all!

Sincerely,

Bo
p.s. Sorry to be so long winded, just took extra explaining the situation!

Personally i think its crazy to think the v&h would be quieter than the rush slipons. Both have an open chesse greater desined bafffle. If anything they should sound very much the same in loudness. Now the quiet baffles will drop it a few db's. I tried the quiet baffles in my v&h pipes and it really just made the exhaust deeper not much quieter. If you wanted your rush slipons to sound quieter you should of just changed out the baffle to a smaller diameter. I had rush slipons with a 2" baffle. Sound was good but wanted to try the 1.75" baffle. So i ordered them. Pulled the 2" baffle and installed the 1.75. Now that was quieter. Still louder than stock but quieter than my 2" baffle. If you want something a little quieter than what you had give rush a call and get a smaller baffle. I have 2 videos of my bike, one with a 2" baffle and the other with the 1.75. If you want to hear them send me a pm. Oh and rush is a sponser here. Look them up and send them a pm. I think his name was Ryan. Could be wrong.

Well if you are having them do a stage 1 flash then yes the pipes help. To partially answer you question they do sell quiet baffles and they do quiet the sound down. Basically they restrict airflow or re-direct it

Default Thanks for the info!

Thank you both for the info! The dealer said that he would give me these "Quiet Baffles" for free just to try and get me to keep the V&H pipes. But that idea about getting the 1.75" baffles from Rush sounds like it might be the plan to follow up on. I'm going to try the V&H baffles first but will probably take back the whole kit and tell them to just use the money toward the price of the Super Tuner and Dyno then get the baffles from Rush and do the tuner and Dyno after I get them installed cause I don't think I could get them here by Wednesday.

Thanks a bunch though, much appreciated!

Bo
