I have to get my tank repainted because of an idiot in my garage over the winter. They are paying to get the tank fixed. Only problem is scheduling with the body shop doing the work. This weekend is going to be a beautiful one and I want to go out riding all weekend and into early next week. The body shop wants me to bring the bike with as little fuel in the tank as possible. If I have too much fuel in the tank is there a fast way to drain the fuel out? I've tried syphoning out the tank but made a huge less the last time.
1/4" fuel hose - 4 feet long from the local auto parts store - hold it over a bucket, suck, spit, and let drain
OR
you can buy a suction gun from the local auto parts store and suction it out - more expensive, easier?, same end result
Remove your completed dash, including the cover underneath. I have used:
with success.
I would suggest lengthening the exhaust side of the pump using some rubber hose. Doesn't have to last forever, just long enough to perform what you need. Couple of bucks at the hardware store.
OR un do the quick coupler then remove the hose from the lower half of the coupler and attach a hose into a suitable container then re hook up and turn on the key and let the fuel pump do the rest. Done it a few times.
siphon as much gas out of the tank as you can. put 2 pairs on vise grips on the cross over hose. DON"T SMASH the little TUBES and cut the hose lift off the tank.
my .02: id take off the tank and bringing it to them.

Like they said, take the tank off. I do the same when I pull mine, small vice gripes on the hose, cut between them and lift it off. Once its off support the tank so it's nosed down and drain the fuel one side at a time into your gas can.

Excellent idea - I may even get a spare connector to plug in for that purpose.
