not really caring if it's wise or not, but can i swap my stock fat bob shocks with my wifes 1200N shocks? i want to lower my *** end and she needs to soften up her bike due to back issues. she wants to ride but that little beast rides a bit rough, and i sure as hell am not going to sell it. i believe they can be, but just want to make sure
Last time I wanted to do a shock swap, I think I went to Progressives site and checked if the same shock for two bikes was the same part number...that would indicated the rates were the same.
Air shocks for the sporty. You can get RK/SG take offs for $100 or less. Throw some schrader valves on them and good to go. It's 100x better but you'll still have issues on the front end. You can also get lowering blocks for your shocks. I'd avoid the blocks if you ride 2up though.

Thanks for that. The Sporty is a solo ride. Single seat. We use the Dyna for 2 up (smart). I will have to mill over the air shocks. It's the wifeys bike and even though she was told no more riding until she gets her back better, or she wears a brace when she rides, she is adimint about keeping it the way it is.
Dyna spring rates are way higher that Sportsters. Dyna shocks on a sportster would be to much stiffer and Sportster shocks on a Dyna would be too soft. But they will bolt right on either bike, but thats what you end up with.
The 1200N shocks are quite short, it travels a lot less, rough ride. I have fit 1200N shocks on my Streetbob, I can't see why now as long as your fatbob shocks clear her fender strut and belt guard.

It's really not that much difference tbh. I bought the air shocks, 13" Road King, then I bought a 1.75" lowering kit from the guy at tamarack to take me back to pretty much stock height. It was worth the $200 total. Like I said though a sporty will never be an absolute comfortable bike but you can do things like air shocks, progressive fork springs, and ricors on the front end to make it better.
If you're truly interested sportster guys are big into the touring shocks and such there's gobs of information on here and xlforum.net about them. I did ask the guy about weight on the lowering blocks. I go about 190. He said they were good to 300lbs maybe more depending on how much air is in the air shocks.
