Default Radical mods on Fatbob

Hey guys! I used to be on here years ago and I'm back! I still love my bike but I'm ready to make some very radical mods to it similar to the following:

http://www.kustomgarage.it/index.php...#axzz1sPL4LTYr

Yes, I know it's a metric and I know it has a different suspension, but I want to follow the general principal of the styling such as removing the front fender and adding gators to the forks, taking off the risers and putting on clip-on handlebars (cafe style), I would probably have to go with a more slender tank and of course chop the rear fender and strut. I love the low slung retro look of the bike on the site and figure I can do something similar with mine.

My question is, for those of you who have modified your rear fender, did you buy a custom fender and paint it or did you remove your stock fender and work with that?

Hope to get some good ideas!

Thanks!

Wench

Fortunately I've been dating a master Harley tech for the past three years. I'd say both are well within reach as long as I keep him properly motivated! LOL

Welcome back!
That look is very achievable, and relitavely cheap too! Sporty guys do it all the time.
Remove the front fender, add some fork gators, a new head light, a set of spoke wheels, clipon bars, king tank from a late model sporty, struts, spring seat and chopped rear fender, and you'll be pretty close to your mark....it'll be a pretty rough ride, but damn cool for sure.
To answer your question, I'd pick up a fender off ebay to toy with and not hinder your riding you can sell your fender once you getthe look you want.
Good luck with he build and post MANY pics...

P.S. keeep me in mind if you swap out tanks, i need a tank with a console BAD!

I think a project duplicating many of the design features would be highly achievable ...

One thing I noticed that set it apart was the additional rake in the forks over what the stock Fat Bob has ... you could probably get a set of Hawg Halters Inc or Pro Ones triple trees with about 5 degrees of rake to get a similar look ...

The vintage / nostalgic rubber also really makes a visual impact ... I think you can get the same or similar from Coker ... might be some other makers Avon, maybe ... some of the tires have Firestone markings, but I don't think Firestone currently makes them ...

Cutting off the struts and making a rear fender that hugs the tire is fairly common ... you could probably find at least two or three threads on how guys on the forum have done it with photo layouts ... you could PM them with any specific questions ...

If you're not familiar with them, you should have a look at Zero Engineering's website ... they make a line of bobbers with a lot of similar characteristics ... use reproduction shovel heads and even knuckle head motors if I'm not mistaken ...

Welcome back ... don't be a stranger ...

One other thing to be aware of is that our dynas don't have the same frame line that compliments this design so well. Specifically the top of the frame from the triple tree to the rear axle. Dynas are more squared off. Other than that I agree you can get pretty close. Can't wait to see the pics.
