The actual mechanics of cutting the bolts and moving them was a breeze, but locating the wiring harness and the connections was a pain in the _ss.

I couldn't get to the connections that are up inside the frame, even after lifting my tank as far as it would go with hoses intact.
I finally had to drain the tank, remove the front hose and lift the tank off to be able to get to the connections.

After that I was able to reroute the turn signal cables and it looks great. It took several hours and very hard work to do - I don't know how ya'll can do this in 30 min.

As long as I had everything exposed I installed my stereo speakers too, so I was able to run the power line back to the battery much easier.

Have to admit, my FLD looks better with the running lights/turn signals, down on the forks, and I have already had some compliments on how it looks.

PICS to come soon.

Wow. Talk about turning an easy job into a nightmare. As someone else said. All up its a 30 minute job. Tops.

Next time remove the grommets.

Could someone post a picture of the cable reroute part of this? I'm a bit confused and a photo would help a ton. Thanks in advance.

Take and measure the original stud from the lower windshield and set the two nuts to that length

Tools*
Hacksaw
1/4 Allen key
Appropriate star bit for lower mount I went to advance auto parts and got both sets for less than 25 bucks a few years ago
Blue loc tite
2 each 1/2 inch wrenches
File

First thing was to remove the grommet out of the wire channel and very easily pull on the wire connector for the turn signal unplug it and route the wire from the area out thru the top of the triple tree*
Take and loosen the lock nut on the turn signal

Once this is loose take the 1/4 Allen key and loosen the barrel nut on the rear of the mount

Once loosened remove the turn signal from the bracket and set aside

You will need to remove the existing bracket but save the nut for to act as a spacer for the mirror stud

Now when taking the windshield bolt out you will have a washer and rubber grommet with spacer for windshield take off and save

Now the original turn signal stud is fine thread but the windshield bolt is course thread but to solve this take the piece of threaded rod and insert it go very slow to retap the threads once done set aside

Take the threaded rod apply a dap of blue loctite to the threads install the washer and grommet and install back where in the original mount location
Tighten with the nuts*
Take the original mount to help measure the length needed to mount the turn signal on the new stud
Use the hacksaw to cut off about an inch of the remaining rod and discard
Apply a dab of loctite to the threads and mount the turn signal once aligned tighten the locknut

Route the cable from the turn signal thru the small hole just behind the new location up behind the head light and back to the Tyco lock. Push this back into the hole and reinstall the grommet. NOTE make sure you check which direction they come out had a pain of a time getting the right side back in

So here are the finished pictures. Total mod time was right about an hour

Do you still have the pics for this. I'm interested in doing this to mine but I am slightly slow without the visual aide.

Default Love/Hate

I just did this modification and I think the new placement of the turn signals looks great! It was an easy 30-40 min job like others said. Actually about 30 for the first one and about 5-10 for the second. What I don't like is seeing the wires hanging off the back. Even thought it's only 3-4 inches of wire from the turn signal housing to the hole in the fork, I just don't like it. Now they look like even more of an afterthought than hanging from the handlebars.

My original plan was to buy a pair of bullet signals with the wires running through the stalk, then use a hollow mounting bolt (I was excited to actually find that) then the wire would be totally hidden in the fork shroud. BUT the mounting bolt goes right up to the fork tube, so there is no room for a wire to do it that way.

Maybe i'm just being picky, but I absolutely hate the way these wires look. I'm hoping those of you who have done this might have come up with an idea that I haven't to fix this situation. Any advice??
