Well it was raining today so instead of riding my bike I decided to mess with it. I left the baffles in and put the 1/4 eye bolt in the pipe. Im running freedom performance exhaust they are id say 2 inch that go to 2 1/4 at the end of the pipe. I had to hack up the heat shield on the back side a little to clear the bolt threads coming out. I also double nutted it, I'm a firm believer in the double nut/jam nut after racing dirt track for 5 years. You learn to keep things from coming loose. Ill post some pics tomorrow have to recoat my pipes they got dings while I was doing the mod. Anyone else running the lolli pop mod?
Ok, yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. I would imagine it would give you some good initial torque from the line, but may affect the horses at higher Rev's. You'll have to let us know how it works.
I've been looking at some new pipes and considered this mod.
You know, you really want to see this on a dyno. Could be its doing nothing or making things worse.
The lollipop is a nice fix for exhausts that have a big reversion issue, usually those with open pipes like drag pipes. On other pipes it seems to do nothing but slow the exhaust gases.
I saw it in action a couple of years ago on a dyno in South Wales. A guy had a Sportster with some gutted Short Shots on it that was running like a pig at low RPMs. On the dyno the AFR and power was all over the place up to 3000 rpm. Then the tuner just stuck the blades of a couple of screwdrivers over the mouth of the exhaust and as if by magic the bike ran better. They made lollipops up with a washer welded to a bolt and when fitted the bike ran much better.
I rode the bike today for about 15 mins and tossed them out. They give the exhaust a weird tinny whistling noise. Maybe it was because I had the baffles in still, oh well at least I wont have to worry bout my baffles falling out now with the new bolts having lock tight and being double nutted.
