Default Engine light on Superglide. Questions.

What does it indicate when I turn on the ignition? What does it do? Now that I installed my power commander V I am told to immediately start the engine and not wait for the light. When I do wait for the light it takes longer to finally get the engine to turn over also I get a god awful grinding noise at the end. Just curious. This is my first HD. 2008 Super Glide. I posted this in the general forum without any help. I was hoping somebody could shed some light on this. Thank you!

Sorry, I don't have a clue. Grinding noises don't sound like an electrical issue unless your starter isn't disengaging. Did this began only after the ecm install? If so, try calling the power cmdr tech guys and see what they say.

Hey...I have learned a few things from owning my first HD and using power commander 5. I was also told to start the bike as soon as you hit the run button. I then was told not to because you still have to let the fuel pump prime when you first hit run. So now I let the fuel pump prime and then once the engine check light goes off I start the bike. Also make sure you have either disconnected or remove the O2 sensors from the pipes and cap the ends of the wire harness's. I had issues with this also until I removed the O2 sensors and capped the ends. I don't have any grinding, but at times the bike will start right up and other times it takes a few turns to fire. I need to get the bike dyno'd still just a matter of having the cash. Hope this helps.

The engine light is illuminated when the key is turned on because the bike is going thru a self diagnostics prior to starting. Much like an automobile does when the key is turned on. I don't run any tuners but it seems the tuner has modified the self test portion of the pre-start. What does the tuner manufacturer recommend?
