My wife has an 06 Street Bob. Problem is the mini Apes put her hands above her shoulders causing numbness in her hands. I realize that removing the apes will take away the "bobber" look but we have to have comfort for her. We installed a set of the swingback bars and actually hate them. The numbness went away but thebars turn upward at the grips andareawkward. I am considering a stock set of buckhorns from a superglide or something simular. Any suggestions? Pictures?
Did you try rotating the stock Bob bars rearwards?
I swapped my stock buckhorn bars to ape hangers and when I did so I also got some hand numbing. I slowly kept rotating the bars back closer to me until the numbness went away.
The problem is that her hands and shoulders are probably stretched out too far. You may want to try just rotating them back half and inch at a time and see what happens. If you have to rotate them back past the fork line then you may just want to swap to an entirely different type of bar because anything past the fork line doesn't look quite right.
I am small and had the same problem with the bars. I replaced them with Heritage Classic stock bars pulled back to my comfort level.
They look good, but more importantly, are extremely comfortable.
The bend at the grips is natural, unlike the stock bars which put your
wrists in an uncomfortable position.
Ride the bike to the local dealer. Get with the parts guy. Take several styles of bars out to your bike. Have her sit on the bike, and "mock up" the various bars. Find the one she likes, problem solved. That's what I did. I ended up with some stock Heritage Softail bars on my dyna.
My brother's Superglide came with Buckhorns stock. He didn't like them. They seem to bendhis wrists at an ackward angle.I would recommend that you check out a stock Superglide and see if she likes them.
He has the stock Buckhorns for sale.
He also has a pair of Lowrider bars and 4.5" pullback risers for sale if you are interested. This was a comfortable setup...check out the lowrider and see.
PM me if you are interested in trying any of these bars.
Also, for big bucks you can get some Wild1 bars. They were close to $300.
The standard superglide ('06, '07) uses mini buckhorns. I have the FXDI 35 which uses bigger buckhorns, look at those.
What did those slammers cost? I don't like the buckhorns, and am looking at the slammers, the '07 CVO dyna bend for my own bike - I like a flatter more flat track like bend (like to old FXR-SP).
