So I have been doing some homework into a FXDB big bore kit, like the S&S 106ci kit or a Kirby 107ci kit. Was just curious how many other bobbers out there have done this, or are curious about doing so, and if so, what kind of horse power/torque numbers were there and what was a relative estimate on cost. I am a big guy(280lbs+) and need to give my bike some more oomph if you know what I mean...
I haven't done this yet but I like the S&S 106 or Fuel Moto 107 kits best. Lots of guys have done this to there bikes here. Plenty of 103 upgrades as well. Look around here you should be able to find what you need.
I don't think they are a bad idea but you will notice more gain from a cam with intake & exhaust than with the big bore. Not trying to turn you away from it but if you're on a budget it may help your choice.
I'll have to look into the cams and see what they can do, I am on a budget and am really looking for the info for a future project like after my warranty runs out. Most of these kits I have found as far as the threads are for older soft-tails or touring bikes. Dynas, as far as I can tell, are few and far between.
seems like at least 1/4 of the dynas on this forum have done a big bore kit as well as cams etc. Look around at some of the "best dyna" type threads you should find a ton of these bikes.
Two things that can be done to the 96" are cams, and a transmission pulley change to a 30 tooth pulley.
If'n I had the money. I'd go with a 106" or 107" and skip the 103" completely.
I lucked out and got a set of CVO 255 cams for next to nothing. They are right off a brand new CVO purchase with zero street miles. They are going in my 96" Street Bob.
Good luck. I figure you will be around 108-111HP/108-115TQ depending on the cam you use, tuner, and if you do head work and/or other factors.
Plenty of guys have done big bore, cams, heads, etc ... here's a link to a thread in the Dyna section for posting up dyno results and discussing the build ...
