Has anybody used the OEM "Reduced Reach" system. Or tried any offset peg mounts. I like the forwards on my new Wide Glide. But they are just a little to far out there for a 30" inseam.
I put the reduced reach forwards kit on my Fat Bob, just pulled it off cause the C&C seat I got sits me farther forward. Before they kit was great and brought the controls back to where they were comfortable. Its not hard to put on, a real bitch to take off though lol.

I looked at the OE reduced reach seat. And I hope that I don't have to go that route. Maybe some other saddle that gives you a little closer riding position? But that reduced reach saddle is ugly. I'll be ordering the OE reduced reach peg kit today. I'll attach a review to this post after I test it out.

I was hopeing for a little better response myself. But I'm sure that this isn't a very popular mod. I found a few threads related to my question. But most deal with the conversion to "mid controls". I like the cool factor of the forwards. But, because I'm short, I dont have a problem with mids either ( well except for the price ). I've ridden bikes where I felt a little unsecure at the stop lights because of my hight. But this bike makes me feal unsecure at highway speeds. I loose my footing on rough bridge transitions or bad bumps. I just have to find a solution to keep my feet on the pegs.
I opted for the super reduced reach seat, http://www.latus-harley-davidson.com...yna-Models.htm, the dealer wanted parts plus labor for the reduced reach forward control setup, they gave me they were willing to toss in the seat plus matching pillion seat with the bike... I have a 30 inch inseam also, and short arms, the seat allows me to sit upright in a comfortable position because it also puts you closer to the handle bars. the reduced reach forward controls will not bring you any closer to the bars... as for being ugly, you get used to it... its comfortable, that counts more that apperance to me, although i might send it off to mean city cycles next fall for thier comfort upgrade, and a new seat cover..
last year i bought a new wide glide in June and had to use the reduced reach seat as this was before they came out with the reduced reach controls brackets.
between the seat and a set of kuryakyn switchblade pegs i was comfortable and did a few 200 mile days on it, personally i didnt care about how the seat looked once i was sitting on it and comfortable.
i would go back to my dealer if i were you and ask them to let you try a reduced reach seat on the bike and see if it puts you close enough to be comfortable
or if the brackets would be the best way to go.
another option and i know it may sound weird but i just installed a fat bob seat on
my FLD and that seat put me lower than the reach seat did and for the first 30 or so so far miles is definitely more comfortable
Thanks for your reply Brother. That saddle doesn't look to bad with the two-up pylon. I was thinking that the pylon seat may transition "OK" with the big back cushion of the reduced reach seat. I actually have that same pylon seat on order. I'm curious how you feel about being closer to the tank and bars? I tried scoouching up a bit in the saddle to get a feel of the reduced reach seat. And it kinda felt like I was sitting on the tank. The peg relo kit is a little pricy. But I plan on doing the install myself.

Ya I actually asked the parts clerk for advice. She seemed to be very knoledgeable on the subject. Even though she hasn't had much experience with the reduced reach peg kit. She knew that the saddle would move me closer to the controls and give me better footing at stoplights. But Im actually comfortable with my position from the bars and to the ground. My only problem is with the peg location. Therefore, peg relocation seems to be the logical answer. I'm just not sure if the new peg position will be enough. I may still need to look at new saddles also. In my research, I have seen where different saddles have helped other riders. So I may be researching saddles next.
Aggread that sometimes you have to sacrifice looks for comfort. Especially if it means the differance between riding or not. In my opinnion, the peg relo kit will actually clean up the front end of the bike to some degree. The accessory catalog has before and after pictures of the install of this kit. And the kit pulls the controls back far enough that they do not brake the lines of the frame ( viewed from the side ). Small aesthetic gain!
