I'm about 6'. I was told that the windshield should be about nose height. The windshield pictured on my bike is quick detachable, and you can raise and lower it on the upper part of the forks, maybe an inch or so...so as to adjust it to the proper height for you.
I was in the same boat as you man...I didn't want one..period...I still think it takes away from the looks of a wide glide...but I have to be honest... since I got it, I almost don't like to take it off. It's great for cold weather riding...and it truly is night and day difference on the highway.
There is a small amount of buffeting, but that's pretty normal with all shields. I would say for me, the buffeting is minimal and certainly something I can deal with.
