I've been thinking the same thing. Subconsciously, I think I've been turning mine into a Switchback. I'm even considering putting on the Wyatt Floorboard/Heel-Toe Shifter setup. That's one thing I don't like about the Switchbacks. They don't have the heel shifter which I got spoiled with on my Heritage. Unless something's changed. And, I'd probably put passing lamps on but I love the nacelle headlight.

Always nice to get a new bike. The Switchback may actually be a better solo touring bike as the Electra-Glides are a little tighter fit for the driver. The passenger gains enough from the Electra-Glide to make that the choice for 2-up touring, keeps the wife happy.

You can turn a Dyna into what it isn't (or wasn't?). It just takes an eBay account and imagination..................

Depends upon what you expect out of the switchback. I agree with AFMMC, you will probably like it for one up touring, but 2 up...not so much. the bags are smaller by about 25% so you will need to go aftermarket to add a rack and touring pack, etc.
For one up, you might like this option (off a road king, $600 new) but you will also need a rack

or even go the fiberglass one with a jackyl rack which a lot of guys are doing, for less. If you are looking for 2 up touring, I wouldn't suggest the switchback. however, you will love the power and handling.
good luck in your quest.

I'd I had a sportster I could see considering the switchback, but already owning a dyna I can't see just buying a different dyna. It's essentially the same bike with a different front end and bags.

I feel you as well, the style of the switch back, as well we the added accessories, are an eye catcher, and from just sitting on one, a very nice position for riding. I'm in a similar boat where most of my riding is solo (back and forth to work) with the occasional ride with the wife.... not trying to turn my Street bob into a switch back, but maybe add similar characteristics.... i love the removable bags of the Back... talk to an owner of one at the HD shop, said after a few thousand miles, he's never taken them off, so that wasn't as big of a selling point as he thought..... the windshield and the rims are a nice set up in my eyes....

after all that's said.... with some hard bags available for about 3-400 aftermarket, a wide glide tripple tree at about $400, rims you might run across for $3-500 depending on location/time of year, and a windshield for $400 (say you buy it new).... you'd have roughly $1700 is a similar style

i'm sure there some extras added in there you'd have to splurge and get, so maby at 2K with everything new you'd have a switch back similar ride with a custom flare....

just my thoughts / plans as of now!

The best part of having a switchback is the countless hours you can spend on the internet arguing about it's worthiness.

I love taking the bags and windshield off for posing around town, going to the coffee shop (or ice cream shop), etc.

For anything more than a few hours, it's nice to throw a few bottles of water and a bag of food in the bags.

The best is rolling into Whole Foods for some over priced veggies and a couple of steaks, and then throwing it all in the bags while some hot rich soccer mom checks me out from her minivan. You don't get any finer posing then that.

i wouldn't say that at all..... if you compare comparable dyna model, and for a couple thousand more the switch back had the advantage on the accessories for sure. not to mention style as well!!

as for "me" my Bob is free and clear, and "IF" for a wild chance i could sell it at a decent price... YES i would be on a switch back in a heart beat!

You're really living on the edge.

You can easily rationalize it to this bunch. And I like the Switchback except for the forward controls messing up the handling.

It's EZ and fun to blow a bunch of money indiscriminately (think Las Vegas or the Mustang Ranch). But if you need a bike equipped like the Switchback, the EZ way is to go into debt or spend lots of cash.

Or you can outfit your own bike for a fraction of the cost, if you are prepared to DIY. My FXDC is getting a pair of RK police take-off hard-bags and an early Tour-Pak solo setup.
