I'd wondered the same thing myself so last October I removed 2 of the outer spoke wraps on the non-rotor side of the 21" front; simplest place for easy off and on.
The spokes looked the same, no corrosion. I'd polished the spokes before I did the spoke wraps and used DuPont dry wax teflon lubricant on the spokes and wraps when I slid them on as a lubricant.
I'll keep checking the spokes occasionally but as of now, nothing that would make me think the wraps were a bad idea...
Honestly, I tried them just to see how I'd like the look; I prefer the look of spoke wheels on a Wide Glide and I ended up liking the Bykas spoke wraps so much I've put new wheels on the back burner for now; they really change the look of the wheels and for a minimal investment of money and a bit of time installing them the change is incredible...
