Ive never gotten great gas mileage on my Bob since I first got it. Ive alway used my trip odometer to track how much I was using. Im an avg driver , I dont baby it but I dont thrash it either. My fuel light normaly comes on about 120 miles and I usually put in maybe2.5 / 3 gals to top it off. Well last night the light came on at 120 miles and I figured I was good to go till around 180 miles or so giving myself a little buffer of 20 miles or so.Well at 170 miles I ran out of gas. I was amazed , that puts me at 37 mpg and that sux hard core.I fill mine all the way to the silver tabin the tank , almost to point of over flowing. Now I know for sure how far my Bob will go .... so i got that goin for me. I should take it in and see what thay say at the dealership. maybe my Map is off. My Sportster would get 51 mpg easy , hard to believe the Bob is that bad on fuel. What are Ya'lls getting?
I was getting about 39 mpg stock and then 29 mpg after PCIII, exhaust, and SE intake with K&N. I think it worked its way back up to about 34-35 mpg after the mods had been on for a while. I think anywhere around 40 mpg is good.
Plenty of good old threads on this subject. Try the search feature.
My o7 Bob gets about the same. I have 900 miles on it. I assume it will imrove as it breaks in. I do a lot of putting around the back roads. I also feel it will improve with highway miles.
I don't understand. Why such poor mileage? I thought the new bikes would be more economical on fuel mileage. I know the newer bikeshave bigger engines, but my evo wide glide gets as low as 47 and as high as 54 mpg.
Can any of you guys with the new bikes go ahead and break them in ? Yer bikes should get a little better milage later on. You need 5000 miles on them. How many miles do you have. And when you lool at milage look at city milage. There's a lot of difference in the size of the motor on a sporster and the 96cu. I got a 07 fxwg. I didn't buy my bike to worry about how many miles it gits. Its my motorcycle, I bought it to haul *** and ride. The faster you go the more fuel it uses. When you do yer 1st service try synthetic oil. A stage one kit might help you some. but you need at least 2500 miles on it before you do that. I got a SE air box and D&D Fat Cat pipes. Would look at the Thundermax Efi auto tuner. but that's just my 2 cents worth.
Cardboard- My Bob has 4, 200 miles and has synthetic oil since the 1k Service.I also didnt buy it to worry about gas mileageand Im well aware of the difference between a 1200 cc and 1540 cc engine.I wassimply asking a question to other owners to see if thier experience is the same as Mine. Some of uslike to know how others bikes are doing as compared to ourown. That waywe can verify if there is a problem or not. Thx or your 2 cents worth though , it was priceless in my book ..................
Looks like were all getting about the same mileage and thats a good thing as now I knowI dont have a problem and no need to take her into the dealer!
well i gotta 06 SGCustom and i'm pullin 40-42 mpg's. I have a high flow a/c and cycle shack slip-ons with a pcIII. dont know what map though, got it from fuelmoto with a map already in when i told them what i had. i go abt 150-155 miles when the light comes on and i put in abt 3.5-3.8 gals.
i have an 07 fxd with 3000 miles...i get a low of 42 and a high of 45...rarely anywhere inbetween...i ride it pretty easy...i use syn 3 and all stock...hope it gets a bit better when it gets broke in....my sporty didnt get its best milage until about 6000 miles....although, anybody that buys a harley probably isnt too worried about gas...
08 Fat Bob, 103ci, 255 cams, SERT, Bassani pro street, correctly tuned on a dyno, I'm getting 35 to 37 mpg on trips running the slabs and about the same with 80% two lane riding here in the Ozarks.
