Default gear drive questions

So I decided to upgrade to gear drive cams and I've read a bunch of info but not really getting all the info I need. Andrews or S&S? Pros and cons to each? Do I need to upgrade the oil pump and or plate? I'm trying to not dish out a ton of money because quite frankly I dont have it. I have a 2001 fxdxt with a 95" kit with screamin eagle heads. Which cam should I go with? Most of my riding is around town but I still want passing power in 5th gear on the highway. I dont want to sacrifice top end. I ride pretty aggressively. Best suggestion for where to buy the kit whether its S&S or Andrews? Anything else I should change while I'm at it? Perfect fit pushrods or adjustables? Thanks

I put S&S gear drives with HQ cams in my motor a few years ago; still very happy...we did the same on a brothers 95" build and his is still very satisfying too...in both builds we kept stock oil pumps and used perfect fit pushrods. After market shops tend to want to sell as many upgrades as your wallet will swallow...that's business...too much CCP and no releases will be hard on the starter, I went to an S&S IST ignition...brothers is an HQ/DTT...nice to have an ignition delay dialed in, as well I have a knock sensor. BTW; HD comp releases are not my choice.

i put S&S cams in mine and a friends 88ci. Unless you take the heads off, you will need adjustable pushrods. If you are doing it yourself, you will need a puller to take out the inner cam bearings. I took the cam plate, outer cams and bearing to a dealer and had them remove the old cams, and install the new cams in the cam plate or you will need a hyd press and more tools.

Not sure which cam profile you are looking at, but the S&S I used where the 610s. Beside the cam kit, you will need the gear drive kit as well.

Thanks guys. I know all the info about the runout and install. I'm trying to find out if andrews or s&s or better and what type of cam guys are running who ride similar to me and how happy they are. What is the up or down side to andrews vs s&s?

The gears for Andrews and S&S are identical. S&S has a patent on the gears for the setup. Are you trying to decide what kit to go with? As in what cams?

Yeah. I thought they were the same so it basically just boils down to which one is cheaper and which cam I want, right? And yes trying to find out which cams would work best for my application.

I love my S&S cams, but what do you want in a cam? More low RPM torque, high RPM HP, middle of the road? My 585 cams come on hard at about 2800RPM and are a little soft before that, but i typically ride between 2500-4000 so they are perfect.

Andrews 37 is a great all around andrews cam and a lot of guys on here run them.

What is your compression ratio? The S&S 570 is a great all around cam as well if you aren't up in the higher CR numbers.

Looking for more of a low to midrange cam even though I had se 258's in my last bike and liked them. I don't know what my cr is. Bought the bike with the 95 kit and current cams installed and PO doesn't remember. I would call the shop where the work was done but the shop is closed since the guy passed away a couple years ago. Looking more for torque than HP.
