Just picked up my 09 fat bob. a few questions: 1) how often should i wash it; 2)suggestions for removing minor scratches/smudges from rear fender; 3)suggestions for applications in between washes.

I use rubbing alcohol for any smudges on the paint...I have denim black paint so I don't need to wash mine that often luckily

1) how often should i wash it
As frequent ( or as infrequent ) as you desire!

2)suggestions for removing minor scratches/smudges from rear fender
Polishing compound followed by paste wax.

3)suggestions for applications in between washes.
Elbow grease followed with soap and water.
Use "Turttle Wax Ice" after every wash ( in between waxs' ).

Wash it when it's dirty. Polish or a swirl remover with a microfiber cloth for removing smudges. I wax my paint every 2 or 3 washes with simple turtle wax cause it's easy on and easy off. Pledge furnisher polish is a good cheet to waxing it, however it washes off with the first bit of water.

What color/type of finish is it? If it's a denim finish, then don't wax it! I don't have a denim finish bike so I'm not sure what the rules are for taking care of it, but I'm pretty sure you don't want to polish it shiny-smooth.

Gloss finish? Wax away.

I very rarely wash mine with water. I try to wipe it down with lemon pledge after every ride and wax it every 3 or 4 months. The best protection for the paint is to just keep it clean
