i hate to ramble here, but ,one paint question... my gloss black paint always swirles when waxed, and i use only the best of wax or polish... been using blitz one grand wax, suppose to be the best. i have used other polish/wax too, always same problem, any ideas here ??? seems as black paint can be a pain in the ol gulliver !! as much i i do love the black on bob .. thanks for advice..

i have used the honda brand spray on was/cleaner too.great stuff. but honda pulled it.. i just ordered 4 cans from www.ronayers.com .com .dang good stuff for almost anything on the bike !!! anyone eelse used it ?

as a side note,i hardly ever wash my bikes.i use assorted cleaners, etc .. i just have seen probles in the past hosing a bike off with a bucket wash..

i would like a thread on what people use to clean/wax,and or polish different parts on bikes !! might be a good thread, what say ?

one more comment here. best thing i have found for seats, etc is aerospace 303 protectant .. dang good stuff. only at rv stores,or buy on line.

I do know that sometimes the most expensive wax is not always the best. I can usually get a better shine out of some of the stuff that has been around for years verse the latest and greatest. Are you using a a micro fiber towel? I did try that expensive turtle wax ice on my black truck and it swirled bad, it was like baby oil. I went over it with regular turtle wax and it came out perfect. It also depends on what type cleaner you are using on your paint since you say you don't normally wash your bike. Some cleaners are hard on the clear coat? If you do a search you will find a ton of info on this already. good luck......

1. If you ride your bike regularly, you should wash it every week to remove the contaminants that can affect your paint, which can build up leading to swirl marks when you wash it. If you're not bucket washing it then what are you doing? Using one of those dry spray on / wipe off cleaners? If so you're just grinding tiny particles into your paint, scratching the hell out of it! Bucket wash, my friend!

2. When you do wash it, use a good quality automotive / motorcycle wash product. I use Zaino Z-7 Show Car Wash (www.zainostore.com) myself. Search this forum for zaino to learn more about opinions on Zaino products.

3. Buy a set of top-quality, white American made 100% cotton towells for drying AND washing your bike. Colored towels can leave dye residue. Wash the towels in liquid detergent before using, and rinse twice to make sure all debris is is removed. Don't use powdered soap because it can leave rough particles in the towel that can sctratch your paint. Use a seperate towel for your tins, a seperate towel for chrome, and yet another more generic towel for the frame and other areas that get a lot of road grime / grease / oil on them. If you drop the towel you're using for tins or chrome, it's done: no more bike washing duties for it! Why risk scratching your paint or chrome with micro debris the towel picked up from the ground when it fell? Of course, wash in the shade and dry promptly so that water spotting doesn't occur. When drying, use forward and back motions, not circular ones which can lead to swirling.

4. Before waxing your bike, use a clay bar on it (Zaino Z-18 for example) to remove contaminants that will scratch it during the polishing / waxing process. Do you think this is excessive? Consider this: all your tins are directly in the air stream that passes over your frotn brakes, which washes a nice steady stream of very abrasive brake dust over them. Using a clay bay removes those particles and prevents scratching.

5. Carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions for whatever polish / wax product you use. I use Zaino Z-2 Pro Show Car Polish. The Zaino site has some good tips for achieving excellent results.

If you're paint is excessively swirled, you may need to use a good commercial polishing product designed to remove swirl marks. Zaino Z-5 Pro is their offering.

With a careful approach to caring for your finish (like abolittle care and time, with Zaino products you can get your black bike looking "wet". Here's an example pic from a Sportster I used Zain on. I just sold the bike minutes ago.

Good luck!

I also have a gloss blk Bob, I know exactly what you mean, I would rather ride then wash, so I use the Harley spray cleaner/wax, works good, doesn't swirl as much, When my bike was serviced last time I noticed all the swirls were gone, meant to ask what they used, I will find out and let you know, someone told me to try Pledge furniture polish, they say that doesn't leave swirls

I use micro fiber towels. honda spray polish/cleaner. i do bucket wash sometimes, but as a weekly thing,i do use the honda spray cleaner / polish . i do not have a ton of swirl marks.just small ones . i just think bucket washing can cause problems getting the wrong things wet . man, getting wax on black plastic/rubber stuff is almost impossiable to get off to as it leaves white film forever.

linf for blitz .. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=228013

it is great stuff, even tho my garage is filled with about 20 other brands i have used for years .

I have used Mothers waxes and polishes for a good while, and I still use their Mag polish and chrome polish, but I recently tried some Meguiars NXT car wax and now it's all I will use. Its easy to put on and dont leave that normal white powdery mess like most other waxes. Mequiars also makes a product that would probably help get rid of your swirl marks and its the Meguiars scratch X. I also use an electric orbital buffer. It will make things alot easier than doing it by hand and since its orbital and not circular it wont leave swirl marks and it also wont burn into your paint. Its pretty much idiot proof. I bought my buffer at walmart in the car care section for under $20.

I use the Liquid Glass also on both our bikes. It's great and I'm going to start using it on our vehicles also. You need to use the pre treatment before using the Liquid Glass. Auto Zone doesn't carry it but I've used the Maquires Pre Wax when I don't have anything else. You can do a search on the web for Liquid Glass and find an on-line store to be the Liquid Glass Pre-Cleaner for about $9.

Your going to like this stuff on a dark finish. Will make you think you can just stick you hand right into the paint.

Check out the link fo pics of my wifes Dyna that I just bought her last weekend. It's Vivid Black and these pics are after only 2 coats of Liquid Glass.
