Hey guys
I need a little info. trying to adjust the carb on my 2002 low rider. I have screwed the mixture screw all the way in to seat, backed of two and a half turns seem to be a little better but not quite right. It coughs a little if i cruse at about 3000 rpm or less, but if i run up to about 3400 rpm or over it dont miss a beat.i was thinking the person who had it before me let it get a gunked up.Before i have it rebuilt is there a good additive to try and run through it?
What is the maximum turn's i should back off on the mixture screw, like i said i am at about 2 and a half now.
Thanks for any any info.
Sent you a PM on a real inexpensive carb trick.Have you tried running a couple of tanks of fuel with some Seafoam or other reputable cleaner in the gas?
I'm having the same problem on my '03. Misses/hesitates/coughs at 3000-3200 rpm. I ran three tanks with Sea Foam, and two tanks with Chevron Techron Concetrate added. Didn't make a difference. Plugs looked good. I didn't want to mess with the jetting, but looks like I have to. Did some research and it may be the needle jet. I bought the bike used and the seller was no help on the modifications done. Pipes and a Sreamin Eagle air cleaner have been added. What was the other tip you are going to try?
You're running a little lean. I had the same problem and it turns out tr previous owner didn't do any adjustments to the carb when he added pipes. I went from a 45 to a 46 jet and it runs like a champ now.
A lot of guys and some gals buy a previously owned bike where a stage one was done. Air cleaner and pipes. Then they take some where to get it tuned. The shop sells a Dyna-jet kit (quick $100) and install/tune. I've read a lot of threads where the dyna-jet wasn't all that good. Different jets, different needle, a softer diaphram spring and a larger hole in the vacuum piston slide. Some may have a good kit nstalled but more haven't.
