When I bought mine I thought I would have the saddle bags and windshield off more but have only rode without them a couple of times. This bike is all I need and I love riding it but the small saddle bags make my a*s look big.
If you look at the specs between the Switchback, Road King and Street Glide, they're not that much different except the Switchback is lighter because it doesn't have the extra trim, radio, dual exhaust and a bunch of stuff I didn't want.
It's been so hot in TN lately that I haven't bothered trying my windshield yet...I love the bike though ... besides the regulator issue - I need to take mine in before it completely craps out on me and leaves me stranded.
similar situation , bought my wide glide june 3rd last year and 6 weeks later i see the fld at the demo days.. drooled for 6 months and pulled the trigger on it because the wide glide was never going to be the fld.
got a really good trade in for the wide glide and since it was winter here in the northeast they knocked quite a bit off of the top of the FLD and im glad i did the trade..... even with the issues ( vibration, master cylinder and rusting swingarm) this bike is one of the most comfortable and best handling bikes i have owned..
I think I will wait until this winter and try what you did. Maybe get a left over 2012. I don't want to test drive one due to the fact that will probably make it worse. For me HD hit this one outta of the park.
For those that have the Switchback....I was wondering if the engine is black powder coated or is it silver. I can't remember. From some of the pictures I've looked at it appears some are silver others are black. I guess my question is from the factory do ya have the option of black or silver. I know the covers are polished and not chrome. Just wondering about the engine.

It has some sort of black finish with the edges of the fins machined.
The more I look at the Switchbacks, the more I like them. I'd like to see one with spoked wheels.
+1 on that!
That's the ONLY reason I haven't already bought one. If they ever offer those new profile laced tubless wheels as an option, I'll be first in line for one. Otherwise, I'll just keep and enjoy what I already have.
I tell you, I love my Switchback prototype but the time has come to part with it. My wife wants to spend more time on the bike with me and she is not fond of how it rides. With the vibes and the floorboards moving with the swing arm she just isn't comfortable. With that there is a nice black 08 Street Glide in the garage with the bastard glide at the moment. It will be a sad day when it leaves under someone elses ***. That bike has known only my cheeks since it left the showroom....
