I just put on some khrome werks 3"-Hp slipon so I haven't removed the solenoid. I did the stage one in stages. Pipes plus xied leads 1st. I left the exhaust solenoid plugged in. Initially all was well but then bike developed a bad flat spot. I unplugged the solenoid and cured. No fault light. However harley said it would be recorded on ecu and may go to limp mode. It never did. When I put on an alren ness big sucker kit I bought the eliminator plugs too. Apparently it will definitely fault with airbox solenoid unplugged. My bike now goes fantastically and sounds awesome. good luck with it.
