2012 Wide Glide Slip-Ons
V&H Twin Slash 3' w/ Standard Baffle
or
Rush w/ 2.25 Baffle
I do have my concerns... I know that there is a Catalytic Converter in my head pipe. So, I think that going lean shouldnt be too much of a concern, seeing how the 02 sensors take their readings before the Cat. If it is anything like a Ford Mustang, mufflers can be swapped with out issues so long as the Cat's are left in place. However comparing a 103 to a V8 is like comparing apples to oranges and I am still slightly worried about it. I dont want to damage anything.
I plan on putting an aftermarket air cleaner on it in the future and i know it will require the stage 1 flash at that time... Do you guys think it would help or hurt anything if I just have them flash it during the 1000m servicing?
Regarding the Stage 1 Flash; do they increase the amt of fuel to bring the a/f ratio down below 14.0? I know these bikes run lean. I am assuming they change the timing curve, and probably bump the redline a little bit.
I do not want to spend 250+ dollars on a fuel pak or anything like that. I only plan on slip-ons & an air cleaner.
So, please hook me up with some words of wizdom.... and if you have a 2012 Wide Glide with a 103 that has either one of those slip on pipes, can you please put it on you tube. I found one for the v&h's, sounded pretty good over the internet... i have yet to find one for the 2.25 rush
If I havent heard anything back, I will probably just go with the V&H since I can swap the baffles pretty painlessly. I plan on ordering them tomorrow morning.
Thanks Guys.
The Vance and Hines YouTube page also has videos of each of it's products.
I have Python Mamba 3" (baffle diameter about 2.00") Slip-Ons on my 2010 Fat Bob. They are the same product and part number for the Wide Glide as both bikes have the "Tommy Gun 2-1-2" exhaust.
Other than installing these mufflers, there are no other changes to the bike. Stock ECU, no download. Stock air filter.
I've had these mufflers for two years and am still happy with them. I wanted to keep the Tommy Gun exhaust because it is unique to the Fat Bob and Wide Glide. I also think it looks cool.
Also, American Iron Magazine did an article on a 2011 Fat Bob where they installed a Screamin' Eagle Ventilator air cleaner and slip-on mufflers with no ECU download or upgrade. As explained in the article, the Delphi EFI automatically adjusted the AFR and they remained at normal levels all throughout the dyno testing. Also showing a noticeable increase in power and torque.
The bike runs exactly the same as it did with the stock mufflers. It just sounds a hell of a lot better. Not quite like a full exhaust but decent.
After all of the reading I've done, it seems the only thing different about the 103" is the 8 lb ft of torque it produces over the 96"... I could be wrong....

Otherwise, you should be able to find some slip ons used, for a decent price.
I have been dealing with a similar problem with my new 12 fxdwg and like you I wanted to do slip ons and filter without spending a ton of money. I read the articles online and here on the forum and found that with slip ons and just a a/c, no tuner or download is needed. I am however going with a set of XiEDs, which will richen the a/f up a bit. Anyhow, here is what I ended up doing.
I swapped out my 12 headpipe with a 09 fxdf headpipe (no cat). I had to get O2 sensor adaptors as our O2 sensors are slightly smaller.
I then removed the stock baffles from the mufflers and put a set of BCT monster baffles in the end of the headpipe. This made the bike LOUD. The BCT's keep the needed backpressure though, so its not like running open pipes. However, they were a bit too loud for me. I should have in hindsight, gone with the BCT QQ baffles. But I then cut down about 2/3 of the stock baffle and put it back in. Now the sound is just right with both the BCT and 1/3 of the stock baffle at the end of the mufflers. Total cost for me was $160 for the head pipe and BCTs and an additional $100 for the XiEDs to bump the AFR.

I sincerely hope these are loud enough. I guess if they are not, I will get the competition baffle for it.
I am afraid to cut the cat out of the pipe. If I do that, it will require a tune wont it?

The only complaint I'm having is that I'm getting some low gurgle tip noise on decels in 2nd and 3rd gear. Talked to my local dealer and he said it is normal where I put on a more open muffler than stock. I'm still going to have a local guy check it out though... probably just not a good seal around one of the pipes.
I am pleased with them though. I wanted to keep the 2-1-2 look so those slip ons kept the look and made the bike sound a little better.
I made a video on youtube also...
