Default 12 year old 4300 miles backfiring

I just bought a 2000 Low Rider with 4300 miles. It cruzes at about 2000RPM but when i turn the thottle it popps & backfires out the pipes the more i turn it the more it backfires & ruffer it runs. I letoff the thottle back down to 2000RPM & it smooths out. All i have done to it is change all the fluids. when i was checking the air filter it seemed loose so took all the bolts out & the carb came off in my hand, so i put the seal & carb back on it feels ok now. But can't figure out the problem, can anyone help?

Change your plugs as a first step

Other than that, might be something going on with the carb or the intake or exhaust gaskets. Could be a lot of things causing popping and backfiring.

Have you cleaned the carb out? That would be my next step after doing plugs. A bike that old with only 4300 miels surely has some shellacked gas in it.

If I read that right and you said the carb fell off in your hand, I would replace the gasket between the carb and intake.

I agree, sounds like a vaccum leak. Also, check your fuel line for cracks. If the bike sat for a while, dump the gas and put in fresh. If all that doesn't cure the prob., do a thorough carb clean. Good luck!!!

Also lift the top of the carb and check the rubber on the vacuum piston assy. for holes. the accel. pump could be adding gas but the slide won't lift to allow more air. A good cleaning of the carb could be in order.
