Default So Pumped!

So, I took the MSF course a few months ago and finally received my Texas license in the mail and was able to pick up my 2012 FXDWG today. This is my first ever bike and I love the damn thing. To slowly get used to the 1690cc as opposed to the 125cc that I trained on, I rode around all day on my base here in Korea...much safer than the off-base Korean driving environment. Although, I did have one of our on-base Korean taxi drivers look directly at me and still pull out in front of me. I feel really good on it, but initially was a little worried after I read a lot of people on here who are roughly my height (5' 7") were complaining about the forward controls. I bought a reduced reach seat a couple of weeks ago and am waiting for it to arrive. Well, I want to thank everyone on this forum who has provided great information.

Congrats man! I'm 5ft7 also and in the same boat. I took my MSF course last weekend, went to NJ DMV on Monday morning and spent the day shopping. I went with a 2010 FXDF. I sat on many used bikes that day and the reduced reach seat (for me at least) didn't work. With stock seat and forwards, my knee was being pushed out by the air cleaner cover. The reduced reach seat made it worse. I ended up getting reduced reach forwards put on. That moved the forwards back about 2 inches and gave me a little more knee bend and also solved the clearance issue with the air cleaner. I don't know about you, but I picked my bike up on Thursday and it was SOOOO much easier to handle than those 250cc Honda Rebels from the MSF course. I put about 100 miles on it Thursday and couldn't ride yesterday because of severe thunderstorms. Definitely going to get back out today and tomorrow though. Since you already ordered it, hopefully the reduced reach seat works for you. If it doesn't, then consider putting stock seat back and going with reduced reach forward controls.

Congrats - ride safe & watch out for those "Crazy Koreans" on the road. They like to play bumper cars w/anything in their path.

I am definitely considering the reduced reach forwards. Question for you, does P/N 50700005 (http://www.surdyke.com/AdvSearch.asp) for $144 come with the reach reduction for both sides? My knee hits the air cleaner as well when my feet are positioned all te way inside, but I became more comfortable when I moved my legs a little outward. If the reduced reach seat does not suit me, I will probably re-sale as well. Being in Korea, I just don't have the access to go to a dealership and sit on a variety of bikes. Hwever, I think I got lucky with my decision, because I really like the FXDWG.

No doubt, cabbies and bus drivers are quite aggressive here.

I'm not completely sure. When I get home later tonight I'll check to see if it notes the part number on my deal paperwork. I had them put the reduced reach forwards on before I took delivery of the bike.
