Default quesiton bout dyno and a tuner

so simple question for everyone...
is a power commander or tuner required/better when you go to get your bike dynoed? and what if there is no "map" for my exhaust?

2007 fxdc samson caliber 2:1 exhaust, sreaming eagle stage 1 A/C

been running a lil rough and never had it done since i owned it. hit 10000miles.

before i get by the search police. i have tried to read up on this but honestly its confusing to me. and i trust yalls opinion collectively rather than being talked into spending money ha.
thank you.

Dyno is the way to go.It doesn't matter if there is no map for your current set up,the guy doing the dyno will create a custom map for your set up,she will run great once it's tuned properly.

When my friend runs his dyno on a bike he runs it through the paces to get a base reading of what the bike is doing. He then analyzes the readings and makes the proper adjustments to have the bike run at its best without compromises to the durability of the motor.........

Unless he is tuning for racing

Its required. You can't tune the bike without a tuner of some sort.

I've got a pcv and am very happy with it. The guy writing the map will first establish a baseline then adjust each cell so the bike runs optimally.

You could also get a ThunderMax with Auto Tune and never need to get it dynoed, even when you make changes later on.

I started with the V&H Fuel Pak after putting on a set of Big Radius and a K&N with a modified stock air cleaner. (pic of air cleaner in my profile).

The off the shelf tuners work pretty good, but will notice some places in the RPM band that have "hick-ups" or pops from it running too rich.

I used it for about a year then had it dyno tuned by a local shop. The custom map gets all the available power out and gets rid of the rich/lean areas.

Its costly but I think worth it. Just make sure the tuner you take it to uses a exhaust gas reader or get the info from the ECU..... some tuners skip this step

That's simply not true.

All the AT option does it let you make the tune you apply as accurate as possible. There is nothing to say this is a good tune unless you get it on a dyno and check it.

As noted previously, you will need a tuning interface of some kind to reprogram your bike. The dynojet is a testing platform. I believe a starting map is chosen and then adjusted to maximize your bike's performance. Find a competent tuner (person) who knows how to run a dynojet and get the tuning interface he prefers. I had my 2007 FXDL tuned with TTS mastertune and it runs great. There is a sticky in the tuning forum titled "questions you should ask your tuner" or something like that that you can review.

First of all there are only 3 good fuel controllers out there, harley race tuner, thundermaxx, powercommander, and everything else is junk... all 3 of those come with disc that were made with someone else's bike. your bike has different oils, tires, belt, a tight or a loose motor. all of these are taken into consideration when your bike is properly tuned up with a powercommander and dyno machine equipped with a tuning link. When u decide to have your bike dynotuned make sure that the dynomachine is equipped with a tuning link otherwise u are wasting your money............Nelson
