Default 2008 Dyna ready to turn 50K miles

Fixin to turn 50k miles on my 2008Super glide. Bike has now made 8 Florida to South Jersey trips and a bunch of Florida to Chattanooga trips etc and has performed in fine fashion.....Really cannot say anything bad about the bike, Engine, Tranny etc, all have performed well with ZERO leaks. I have read many negatives over the years about the Twin cam 96, The 6 speed tranny, Cranks, etc etc, so i figured i give my view on things after almost 50K miles of riding in 95+ degrees of heat, rain, sleet, etc...For those interested i run Valvoline 20-50w Vtwin oil and a Wix oil filter and perform all of my own inspections and servicing .

When did u have to replace the cam chain tensioners?? I'm hoping to swap mine out for gear driven ones at about 20k miles (probably 2 more years).

The new style Hydraulic ones on the TC96 are supposed to last the life of the bike, don't have the same issues as the ones from the TC88

The 2008 models have the new Hydraulic tensioner and i have had no issues with them at all.For what its worth, i have learned my particular bike's engine is MUCH quieter using regular old Valvoline 20-50wt Vtwin oil instead of Mobil one Synthetic etc...The Synthetic oil made my top end noisy so i started using the Valvoline which quieted up the motor nicely.A buddy of mine started complaining about his top end chattering etc. I suggested he try the Valvoline 20-50w Vtwin Dino oil to quiet it up, and he decided to try it.....His motor is much quieter now also..

I feel like an infant. I just bought my 07 Street Bob last week and have a total of 2600 miles on it. Many more to go!

I just turned 50k on my 08 fxdf yesterday. Could be the best bike I have ever owned.

Default Dependable ride

I too am turning 50k on my 08 Street Bob. I bought it 2 1/2 years ago with 2,000 miles on it. I take lots of trips loaded down with camping supplies. Except for an issue with the stator, the bike has performed well. I started my service of the bike every 2500 miles with Mobile 1 but it was loud so I switched to Harleys 20-50 and every 5k miles. Even though I was told the Primary and Tranny could wait every 10k I change those as well at 5k. Regular service, I hope, will see me well into the 6 figure's of miles riden.
Question, I only get about 6500 miles on my Dunlop rear tire. Anyone have a suggestion? I know I carryn a lot of weight, i'm 250 plus passenger and supplies, but 6500 gets expensive...

6-7k miles is about all you get out of these tires not much you can doo. I did hear that the touring tires last 20k not sure if that true though.
