Default Installing docking gear

Hey gang, newbie here. Just purchased an 07 street bob and the first thing I want to install is a detachable backrest. I have the docking kit but am wondering if I can do this or need to take it to the shop. I am assuming I need to remove the top shock bolt to install this. If true is this hard to do?

I'm not sure because I don't have a SB but looking at pics of a SB on harley website tells me you do not have anything to do with the shock bolts, however memory tells me that you do need a turn signal relocation kit as the rear bolts for your sissy will mount at that location. Use the search function at top of the page there are many guys here who have done this job and used both the stock set up or found ways to do it cheaper that also work, good luck!

You don't need to remove the shock bolts but you do need to raise the bike in the rear for the bolts to clear the rear tire inside the fender. You will also need some sort of relocation kit for the signals.

Not difficult to do, get a turn signal relocation kit and go to town. I did not have to lift the bike, did it with basic hand tools.. FYI i am on an 07 SB as well.

It's a pretty easy job. I also did not have raise the back of the bike to so the install. You should not have any problems. As said before get the turn signal relocation kit and have at it.

having a lift definitely helps for ease of installation but isn't necessary, just read the destructions! :-)
