Hi all,
I have an '04 FXDI. I added Screaming Eagle slip-ons with the stage 1 kit when I got it new. Well, the pipes were scratched so I ordered new ones from the stealer last year. Of course, after moving to another state and finally getting around to installing them, they had given me me the wrong ones: Dyna Glide Slip-ons. The bike doesn't sound nearly as nice. In fact, it almost sounds stock again. My question: Am I going to need to take it to the dealer to un-do the stage 1 mod?
what was included in your stage 1 kit?
It seems you have got dyna glide oem pipes! what a waste! If you bought then a long time ago then keep them on the shelf where they were, you might need them some day. Too bad a bout the mix up.
Okay I'm confused. The FXD is a Dyna "Superglide", the "I" tells me it's fuel injected. Maybe you could install the scatched ones, sell the ones you don't like. Then use that money for some you "might" like. Did you/your dealer install an open air cleaner? Maybe he remapped your ECM. Now I think I will spit the hook out and be on my way.
Are you sure they aren't the new SE "street legal" slipons? They are NOT the same as the older SE slipons that I bet you have. The new ones sound pretty much like stock pipes.
I believe 06 was the last year they made the screamin eagle II pipes that sounded like a harley. If the dealership ordered new ones, they are the newer, politically correct POS's that aren't any better then stock. If your stuck with them, see if you can mod the baffles. (if you can get them out)
Regardless I wouldn't have the dealer take the ECM back to stock settings...it will run fine the way it is.
The ones that came off were the SE IIs. They clearly look different inside. Outside, they have "Harley Davidson" stamped on the rear pipe instead of "Screaming Eagle II" (seeing that when I pulled the first pipe out was what made my heart sink).

There ya go. You got the "new" SE's. Your dealer won't let you return them? Try selling them on eBay or Craigslist. What would you want for them?
