Angry Finally, Custom auxiliary lighting kit fits FLD...huh, WTF????

Thanks, Mo-Co I've been waiting for and wanting this for just about a year since I originally bought the bike:

68000051 Custom Auxiliary Lighting Bracket Kit $299.95

Just add your choice of bulb kit for $70 or less and you're good to go.

Uh-huh. Just TRY to get it. Every dealer I have contacted doesn't have it and when they look up the part number, the item is as described but is marked "OBSOLETE". Even Surdyke took my order online, and then marked it "OBSOLETE" within an hour or so. First week after announced? Really?

One dealer said there may have been a fitment problem. Another said that HD may have found a cheaper source. Yeah, wonder if they'll pass along the price break, too?

So, I'm basically pissed. I thought I was going to finally get passing lamps for my Switchback and now I'm waiting again!!

Anyone have any luck with this item yet?

Talking Eureka! (That DOES mean "I have found it!", right?)

After several calls with search assistance from T.J. at Biker Bob's (Motown) Harley Davidson in Taylor, I located an in-stock (nobody in Michigan seems to have one) and uncommitted (checked on the only one in Ohio in Bedford Heights but it was "committed to a purchase deal") Custom Auxiliary Lighting Kit!

Aubrey at Kokomo Harley in Indiana sold it to me over the phone via credit card for list price (at this point, fine) and $8 shipping. Should have it and everything else I need by the end of the week. Once it's on the bike, I'll post pics here and in my garage. I'm taking a bit of a risk, but I really want these for my Switchback. And before the end of the "riding season."

A) I hope it works and the item wasn't obsoleted due to fitment, and,
B) I hope what comes out later isn't significantly better due to being re-sourced or redesigned or whatever the MoCo is doing with this item.

But whatever. I'll make it work and live with it and maybe even love it!

Cool Almost ready for there to be more light...but...

I want to install the Auxiliary Lighting Kit tomorrow, Friday, my day off this week. I thought about doing this myself, but decided to have ABC Harley in Pontiac/Waterford do it to make sure it's right.

Aubrey at Kokomo (yes, Indiana) Harley did a fantastic job. I ordered it early afternoon Monday, he shipped it out UPS ground for $8 and it came to my doorstep this past Tuesday afternoon. WOW ONE DAY!

But with Surdyke, order I placed on Sunday, (chrome bezels, lamps, and auxiliary switch to replace the dumb one that comes with the kit) looks like probably won't be here today as the order is still in "WAREHOUSE TRANSFER" state. Well, I was expecting a bit much in terms of speed I guess. And you can STILL order one of these Custom Auxliary Light Kits from their website! They charge your credit card, then the item goes "OBSOLETE" and it looks like they keep all the money and not credit your card until they ship the rest of the order!! IF then, I don't know, because I don't have the credit yet. I don't like that.

I think / hope I can "borrow" lamps from ABC HD since they have them in stock, but they didn't have the aux switch kit so I rode 150 miles round trip to Wolverine Harley in Clinton Township because they were the only dealer that had one! 150 miles for a $15 part. Ah, but I bought a nice T-shirt, too!

Lots of Harley dealers in on this effort. But, not my "current" dealer of purchase record: Brighton Harley-Davidson. I've have some bad service experiences with them, but I figure why air the dirty laundry here.

Hoping I can get the lamps on tomorrow in time for my birthday Saturday!

Got it done (yesterday, 8-31-2012)!!!

A very happy birthday present for me today. Bike felt like a complete machine for the first time yesterday. So I guess I HAVE wanted this for far too long.

Question ...oh and another thing...

On the way home from ABC Harley yesterday, dropped in to Brighton Harley to see what my good friend Josh in Parts thought about the passing lamps (he, too, knows I have been coveting this for a LONG time. He also knows and understands why I've gotten fed up with the Brighton service dept.) Bike had been turned off in the lot for about 15 minutes, we were standing at the front of the bike talking and the right passing lamp bulb exploded! It was about 95 degrees at the time, but still...

Called ABC immediately and they said to pick one up from Brighton and they'd reimburse next time I'm in next week. Josh & I did the deed and good as new.

So, defective bulb or had trim ring been tightened too far on install?

And I'm still very happy with having passing lamps!

Tech at ABC said he had to ignore the MoCo's installation instructions at times because some of the wiring routings just couldn't be done as described. So, that might be another reason why the item was obsoleted?

For those who want to get this item for their Switchback, I hope the MoCo doesn't take TOO long making the part available again. As you can see, I worked my tail off to find one of the very few first issue kits that was ordered!
