I purchased a 2006 street bob back at the begining of the year and have not got a service manual yet. Anyway its getting ready to turn 30k so i sent my local dealer an email asking what all it needed and this was his reply
30k service on a dyna is a big service. We will change all oil & filter, spark plugs, air filter if needed. We will do a full check over on the bike adjusted and making sure all cables are lubricated. Also at 30k the front neck will need to be lubed and adjusted. Harley calls for on a dyna every 15k you should replace the inner primary bearing. The cost of the service w/syn and all of the repairs above would be 649.99.....
Let me know when you are ready for us to get you taken care of.....
Maybe im just a cheap *** but that seems extremely expensive. But then again ive always did my own work and have not priced any type of service in years. Does that seem reasonable and normal?
I think that you need to get that manual and if you have any mechanical ability you can save a ton of money. It is funny to see them pushing the 15k primary bearing change. There was a letter that Harley put out stating that but it clearly said that the factory would pick up the cost for the repair. They have since rescinded the letter and state that the replacement isn't needed every 15k miles. There are issues with the '06 primary bearings but if you are having trouble and are going to replace it there are aftermarket solutions that will last longer.
Holy crap that's expensive. The big service is at 20k. $650 seems way too much for oil, filters and cable lube, even with the neck service. Have the dealer send you the check list of everything that they do so you know what's involved. Check your owners manual for what the 30k consists of, or if you don't have it look here: https://www.harley-davidson.com/en_U...bmLocale=en_US
Do you have the service records form the previous owner? You might have the dealer do the 20,000 since it covers most everything. Book as service at 1,5,10,15,20,25k
manual notes inspect rear fork bearings at 30k
Best to have the manual to see what they should be doing and what you are paying for also check the web for helpful videos
