Default Service intervals question

Hello again,

Seems all I have is questions lately
When I check the service manual, it states that I have to have service every 5000 miles. Unless I frequently drive under 20min runs, then I have to get service every 1.200 miles or so.
Now I bought my bike second hand in april and put on about 6000 miles since. A lot of them are long trips of + 4 hours but 3-5 times a week, I drive to work and back on my bike. The trip takes me just under 20 min and about 18 miles in distance 2 times a day.
I had a service 3500 miles ago, but the thing that worries me is with all the short trips, is this bad for my engin? Should I get service done earlier?
Also is it really necessary to go every 5000 miles or is it just a figure so that Harley can get more money out of us? I live in Belgium and service here is not exactly what you call cheap (250$ for a small one and about 400$ for a big one)

Please advice

As long as the bike is reaching full operating temperature on the drive, I wouldn't worry too much about it. An 18 mile trip one way is plenty of time for the bike to warm up and run properly.

Change the oil (yourself) every 5,000 mile or so, and enjoy the bike.

The last time my bike was at the dealer was on delivery day, 4 yrs ago.

You will save hundreds, if not thousands by buying a service manual and doing the work yourself.
