Default Consider boards??

As mentioned your 2012 WG came with forwards from factory therefore doesn't have the hole in the primary (inner or outer) for the shift shaft. So you would need to replace both.
Another option would be boards. Here there are two options. Board kit from HD who's is same as SwitchBack, or aftermarket which is exactly the same as the old (pre06) Dyna Defender (FXDP) boards with the exception they have a boss intricated for the forward shift shaft.
The SwitchBack boards mount further forward the the old style which you may not like.
I've got the old style on the wife's low rider and we both like position over the SB. SB boards are just as far forward as the forwards. FXDP boards are a compromise between mids and forwards. Perfect for our 5'5" height

I know and it has been made clear to him floorboards will not fit with his current pipes.

I was just responding to chris h.'s statement

Frame bracket for mids is in same place as rear for boards(old style). Brackets on SwitchBack move the boards about 2" forward.
Shifter on SwitchBack Is in same location as forwards. So if it's a reach now with forwards, still would be with SB boards.
