Default ok here goes

I have a 2012 super glide custom and about 1 week ago i relocated my turn signals, everything went well except for the fact that there are 2 holes on each side of the bike. (i will get back to the holes as they are a huge part of this question) I said oh well i was going to buy saddle bags next year anyway. In the meantime i purchased a sissy bar and side plates i installed them yesterday while installing them i realized there is a bracket inside the rear fender that i guess was used to secure the turn signals and once the turn signals are removed this bracket is only attached at one point at the front of the fender. After installing the sissy bar i realized that the rear fender will move pretty freely with the turnsignals removed and i wasn't to happy about that so i went to the hardware store and bought a bolt to replace the turn signal i bolted the right side everything was great. I went to the left side and tried to do the same at this point i found that the same place i was going to put the bolt was not threaded my question is why would one side of this bracket have a threaded area and the other no threads its the same part just different sides anyone know what i am talking about

Where did you relocate the turn sigs to? i would just go buy a nut to put on the inside of the fender. As to why one side is threaded and the other not, no idea, but i do know that atleast on my standard superglide, the turn sigs had threads on the inside of them which would make threads on the inside of the fender unnecessary.

You have a bolt that was inserted from the inner fender area through the rear fender bracket hole that the turn signal threaded onto. You can replace these rear fender brackets with ones from a earlier year that have threads in them.I think I used 2008 rear fender brackets when I install my bags which were used.If you buy Harley new bolt on bags these brackets come with it since the 2012 models are not threaded. Also, both rear side holes of the 2012 inner fender bracket are not threaded. If you removed your rear turn signals,I would think you would remember how they were attached??

I know some of the brakets you are referring to have a threaded post where the bolt is installed from the out side of the strut and others have a hole whet the bolt is installed from inside the fender and trheaded into something like the turn sig housing or another fixture.

I am guessing the you have the first braket I mentioned. I had an issue with a braket like that where the threaded post broke off, leaving just a hole. This could have been what happened to yours.

The HD relocation kit comes with a chrome filler washer to cover the holes.

I welded my caps on, hated how they moved around... sounds like you do not have the back inner support in the fender correctly. the part that has the lip on it goes towards the back
