There's a bit of a test you can do which will tell you if it wants to be shimmed or not. When you pull the two front bolts out, then take a look at whether a gap develops on its own or not. If a big gap forms, then shim it. Mine didn't need a shim as things stayed in place. (and I was/am not suffering from vibration issues)

I ended up removing the bottom bolt and placing the mount in upside down, then removed the top bolt. No jack needed and I didn't feel too much pressure on the bolt anyways. Took about thirty minutes to install, would have been ten if I didn't take so much time cleaning while I was under the bike.
