Default Advice with changing handlebars

I know this has been covered a lot but after searching and searching i still cant decide what to do. I want to put 18" apes on my 06 streetbob. Should i order a kit like what hill country customs sells or do i purchase bars that i like and then order a cable and wire extension kit from burly? Or any other reputable options out there? I think with some time i can extend the wiring myself unless i can find bars prewired for a good price. I appreciate the help as the wife is willing to buy this for me an i want to act fast before the money gets spent elsewhere. Thanks

Having the bars prewired would save some time ,I dont about the cost of the prewired bars . I went with burly cable kit it comes with wiring extensions and is pretty much plug and play its a great kit, I would go with whatever is cheaper myself lol!

Burly would be the way to go with 18" in my opinion, just because at that height you will likely need new everything (brake, clutch, throttle).

Classic apes are probably the easiest to internally wire, so you get lucky there.

I've used HCCC twice now and am happy with the quality. The only thing I didn't like was the clutch cable which was from Drag Specialties and yellows pretty quickly. I'd opt for a better quality set of cables, which will increase the cost overall but worth it in the end.

Whether or not to get them pre-wired is up to you. If the price difference is significant (pre-wired vs not). Pulling the wires yourself is not difficult, just time consuming. You'll need to extend your OEM wiring harness. I've jused the Novello kit and liked it. Easy and leaves a very clean joint that is sealed. If you're good with a soldering iron, then have at it.

Whatever you decide, buy bars you like and that fit. Don't settle for the best price/deal. Settling almost always leads to more changes down the road.

Do some fit tests, take some measurements, all the homework....

Im trying todo all my homework right now. I want the exact same bars as stock but 16" instead of the stock 10". I cant seem to find what the pullback is on them. I know 10" center. Can anyone recommend a bar? Gonna probably extend the harness myself. Anyone use the burly kit to do this?

I've used the Burly kit before and it worked out great, no need to measure anything or worry. It was a pretty straight forward and simple install. The only thing I didn't like about them was that they area only available in black. The second time I did apes I went with Carlini gangsters and took the time to measure everything out. I ended up going with NAMZ wiring harness extensions and Magnum Chromite II cables. The quality of the Magnum cables is excelent but they are a little more pricey than the Burly kit. It really just depends on preferance as far as what look you are going for, they are both great kits. The NAMZ wiring appeared to be the same as the wiring in the Burly kit not sure if that is where burly get theres from or not but they are both color coded and plug and play kits.

Good advice so far. As far as how you want to do it, a prewired set of bars makes it much simpler if you are a novice, b ut it is not difficult if you have never done it before, just time consuming.

I have always ordered cables, bars, riser bushings, and done it myself. If I need extra wiring I will solder in wire myself and shrink wrap it.

I have to agree with do not settle as you will want to change them again in a bit. I always recommend that people hit a local biker hang out or bike nite and check out the bieks there to see if there is something similar to what you are looking for. No one else can tell you exactly what you will need for comfort as everyone is different.

On the bikes I have owned I have had several sets of bars on each one and all are a little bit different.
