Thanks for all the replies. In hindsight, you guys bring up a valid point - I certainly wouldn't want the bike to cut out while gunning it down the congested highway. Some warning would be great though, maybe a constant siren every 5 seconds or something. Wishfull thinking I guess, I'm just grabbing at straws here. Believe me, I have been kicking my own *** all day about this! Couldn't call any dealer either- weekends in the sandbox are on Fri. and Sat. and nobody works on a Fri.
Yes, I'm familiar with the override procedure and I did have the code in my wallet. My OLD wallet that is, that got pickpocketed on a recent European holiday about 3 months ago! I've gradually remembered & replaced all the cards lost from that, somehow the code card slipped my mind. It's not something you think of everyday.
I'll go get a new one programmed tomorrow. 40 bucks from what I can tell. New code back in wallet already.

Although it would serve as a good way to see if you had too much to drink. Next time I will leave my fob at home when I go drinking. If I cant reset the alarm I will call a cab!

According to my manual if you have the original fob present you can change the pin anytime you want or see the current pin. From my manual : With fob present turn the key-ignition-off-ignition-off-ignition.....press left turn signal 3 times.....press right turn signal 1 time and release....turn signals will flash and the current pin will appear in the odometer. My bike is a 2007 so yours may be different.
I have often thought of losing my keys and fob while driving. I wondered if the bike would complain while riding. Guess it don't...
I would be nice to have the security light fast blink or something like that while running if the fob gets out of range, maybe a note on the LCD like an error code. Outside that I don't see a problem with the design. Alarms are stock now on ultra's - at least my 2012 RGU. However, the siren is optional so no sounds. Just flashing lights.
As much as I hate to say, my dyna requiring the key to run may be a good thing at times...
To all the smug you-should-know-a-load-bollocks-procedure: shame on you!
This is a crap thing with newer Harleys. You can start and ride off a Harley with zero indication that you don't have the fob and this is not right.
Couple of scenarios:
1. You pull up outside your fav bar and go in for a beer. You are sat inside in range of your bike. Someone jumps on your bike and rides it away with no problems for up to a 150 miles. They can then indefinitely restart the bike using the procedure posted by someone above and the default code that dealers do not change or tell the customer to.
2. You have your keys hanging up inside your house near the door. You jump on your bike and ride 150 miles. You get absolutely zero warning from the bike when you go outside the range of the fob, not even a red security key light on the speedo. You stop for gas. You find yourself stranded.
It is wrong and it is a crap feature. At the very least the bike should flash a warning when you pass outside of range of the fob.
I'm thinking you don't even have the security system and or you are just full of crap. Neither one of your scenarios can happen. Not unless maybe you are sitting on the front porch of the bar and someone gets on your bike right in front of you. The fobs don't have near the range to work in either one of your scenarios. With my fob I pretty much have to be close enough to touch the bike to get it to disarm. There's been plenty of times I've gone out to the garage to do something with the bike and forgotten to grab the fob. 100% of the time the alarm goes off. Nevermind the fact that I would have the person trying to steal it ventilated with my 45 shortly after I heard the garage door opening. As far as keeping codes in wallets. I just set mine to the last five of my social security number. It's easy enough to remember and if someone manages to get ahold of that info I have more to worry about then a stolen bike.

The range of the FOB is only 10 feet
The salesman had me to enter my code a couple of times before i left the shop when i bought my bike. Also showed me how to put it into transport mode in case it ever has to be towed anywhere.
