Agreed on FOB range, but everyone should change their code to something other than what it came with. I just walked over and started my friends ultra in front of him to show what could be done. The FOB was out of distance. I just knew the code cause the dealer sets every bike to the same. Since we have the same dealer I knew the code and just tried it... That scenario is possible you know - its up to you to make is different...

another thing to be aware of is broken indicators, my right one is not working now (got smash a few weeks back), so if this is the case and you loss your FOB then your up ***** creek. ME i dont leave the house without patting my pocket for my phone and fob dont carry a wallet most the time.

Do a little searching. I ran my bike for a month off the code when both my fob batteries died. It works well and is not hard. HD made a good plan with the code for when the need arises IMO.

With my fob I pretty much have to be close enough to touch the bike to get it to disarm. There's been plenty of times I've gone out to the garage to do something with the bike and forgotten to grab the fob. 100% of the time the alarm goes off. Nevermind the fact that I would have the person trying to steal it ventilated with my 45 shortly after I heard the garage door opening. As far as keeping codes in wallets. I just set mine to the last five of my social security number. It's easy enough to remember and if someone manages to get ahold of that info I have more to worry about then a stolen bike.
Well, bugger you and the horse you rode in on!

The range on my Fat Bob's fob is about 15' through a house wall. I can wheel my bike out of the garage and onto the drive and start it, all with the fob on the table in the hall of my house. I have also ridden to work by accident without the fob and then been stranded there until I called home for the instructions on over-riding the lockout.

The bar scenario isn't then so far-fetched for a place with bike parking outside the bar.

All this needs is a warning light to come on if you are running outside of range of the fob. Not exactly rocket science is it?

Evidently one that works. It sensed the fob (figuring the owner was near by) so it started. You lost the fob and parked (if just to get gas), no fob, now your a thief.
So it won't start.
Your complaining because it worked and your stupid?

My fob don't work past 5' or 6'. But I do lock the neck if I'm say in a diner and within 20' or so. It's a simple thing to avoid the proximity sensor actually working at that distance.

And as far as neck locks and disc locks. A skateboard bypasses that. Nothing is going to stop a real thief. If they want it. It's gone.

Locks only keep honest people honest.

Simple solution, for losing FOB during ride, invest in sweet "biker chain" like the ones for wallets. This way your FOB's clipped on and won't fall out somewhere on ride...good to go & makes nice complement to your riding attire...

Here's what I use, with a spare key and the fob it's simple and safe,I bought a black and a brown belt so I just leave one of these on the belts all the time. I picked up a heavy duty brass snap(think dog leash) at the hardware store and just clip it on when I ride. http://www.shop.captain-itch.com/Key...-Belt-Loop.htm

Ride your bike for a couple weeks only using your personal override code and it will never be a problem again whether you lose your fob or the fob battery dies. SJ Ron
