Don't you know all the newer automobiles with keyless go system work the same? It will run forever till ignition turns off. Get the override codes man!

Everyone has their own ways and theories on how to go about not getting stranded. Me, I keep my spare fob locked in my saddle bag and keep it there at all times. I use my key attached to my other fob as my lock-and-start the bike key. When I stop somewhere, I lock the ignition, maybe the forks if I'm feeling extra precautions and then go about my business. since the spare fob is always on my bike, the alarm will never sound, so that's the downfall. I'm not really concerned about the alarm personally. I've never had a problem and never will get stranded, but to each their own...

it'd be damn dangerous if the bike shut off when the fob rolled out. say it blew off somewhere during a ride on the highway and you just lost all power in the center lane.... that a win, right?

people love getting pissed and stuff like "mickey mouse system" without thinking. whoi's fualt was it that OP didn't know his PIN? especially when we can set our own dins and it's covered in the owners manual.... and provides little cards to write the pin on.

What he said. Can't blame the kit for user error.

in spite of this being an old thread . . . on mine (2014) there is a warning in the display that the FOB is not present if you ride off without it. I would be curious IF the FOB is lost while riding (once the FOB was used to start it) if it sends this same warning since it doesn't pick up a signal. Probably not. I have never had any issue with the system. It's been completely transparent. I also know how to over ride it in case.

There are a few clued up guys who actually get this, the rest just don't even bother reading anything beyond the first post before commenting. Most cars thesedays with keyless entry & start warn you in a variety of ways when the transponder is out of range. Why not the MoCo? Yes, I should have memorized & practiced the override procedure but in that case why have a cheat card at all? Another way of putting it - why warn me of anything then? Sidestand down? Yes, I can see that myself thanks. Low fuel? Yes, I know thanks...mileage tells me more than the indicator. High beam on? I know thanks.. I switched it on & it's pretty obvious. Get my point? Why then NOT warn me of something pretty damn significant, of which I'm likely to have NO idea?

I'm not bitter, I'm not angry either. But call me stupid & I'll respond.

Rant over.. Let's put this one to rest guys.

It 'reads' more difficult then it is. The actual procedure is easier then remembering to close the throttle, pull the clutch lever, and lift up or push down on the shift lever, to change gears. I have never understood people's need to carry a copy of the procedure. Or a reminder of what the code is.

Just pick 5 numbers that are meaningful, and not easily forgotten.

It is good that this sort of thread appears occasionally. It should remind people to change the code to something they will remember, and learn how to use it if needed.

This happened to me once as well started the bike up and laid the keys down on a stool to throw on my helmet. Got to the gas station and boom. Luckily I was 4 miles away and someone ran me the key but yea I know the frustration. Ive tried to program the security override a few dozen times never been successful. I have followed the directions and youtube video verbatim never seems to work for me

[QUOTE=Hero;10409947]Got myself into a situation today where I lost my anti theft proximity fob (and keys) while riding. I only realized when I stopped for fuel and the bike would not restart, lights flashing and chirping. I didn't have my override code handy (long story), so had to catch a cab nearly 20 miles back home to get the spare keys!

My question: what kind of mickey mouse system is this, that allows the bike to run on happily until the ignition is eventually cut, stranding you in the middle of nowhere? What if I refuelled the night before and rode for hours all the way to the coast as I usually do? Is there some sort of safety benefit that I don't know about? It seems totally stupid and ruined my day. I don't believe for a second that I'm the first to have done this.

For all I know I could have lost it right next to the bike as I mounted before setting off, neighbourly scum picked it up & now just lying in wait to come for the bike later. What
