I think that I am having a case of the "New Owner - First Harley - Have I got a Lemon Blues" Very low mileage 05 FXDI. Recently, it's seeming to run rough to me. Almost like it's missing on one cylinder. Not real bad, just doesn't seem to be as smooth. Then yesterday, I was doing quite a bit of riding around town w/ the temps in the low 90's. As I pulled in to my parking lot it started really sputtering at idle speed and then just died. A few minutes later, it started up fine and ran well.
Took it out again about an hour later to meet the wife at a restaurant and it ran as normal, but with s slight miss or something. I have SEII slip-ons, SEII air kit and re-map of the EFI. Thought I'd pull the plugs and see how they look, but thought that I'd also check here to see if anyone had any ideas. BTW, When I took her back out, the right hand mirror was't adjusted right. Waited til I got to a red light to re-adjust and found that it the nut below had vibrated off. I've only put 130 miles on the bike since I had the dealer and put new bars on and have less than 500 miles on the bike. That's awfully quick for things to be vibrating off!
TIA for any advice. Art
Art, don't dispair, a nut here or there doesn't make it all bad. Go back to the dealer and let them make it right. Tell them of your problem with the rough running and they can hook up to it and check things out being that it's been happening since they did the upgrade. Take a sandwich with you and camp out on their doorstep
Howdy Art, I will have to agree with the others, take it back to the dealer and tell him what your problems are and see if they can take care of it for you, that's what warranties are for. Considering all the parts that are on a bike, I wouldn't think that a nut coming loose or a little miss when riding would constitute a lemon. Sometimes there might be a few little kinks to work out before it starts to perform the way that you want it. It will get better then you can enjoy the ride.
This was actually posted partially tongue in cheek. It seems like may of us find something that doesn't feel or sound quite right and it scares the hell out of us. I thinkk that the weather is a major contributor. I had just had a great day of riding and a really lousy ending and then the mirror thing came up. It reminded me of my first bike, a Honda 175 about 38 years ago. I took it in for the 1000 mile service, picked it up, rode home and decided to polish it up and while I was doing the front wheel, I noticed that the bolt which went through the front wheel hub had no nut on it and it was just sitting in there. Now I rode this bike back and forth to work every day rain or shne for 30 miles each way.
Needless to say, I was not very happy with the dealer and let them know so. The mirror issue just reminded me of that. Thanks for all the kind words. Art
