Do you replace Inner Tube every time get new Tire?
So funds are tight, and I'm not wanting to pay the $25 for a new tube the shop wants to charge. A fellow rider friend said he doesn't replace his tube every time he gets a new tire and that unless you have a hole in it or it's getting real old, the tube is normally in good condition and he re-uses it.
My tube is about 10 months old and thought maybe I'd keep it this time around and then replace it at my next tire change.
I'm going to need a new rear tire come spring and was comparing prices the other day at the dealer and they priced one out for including a new tube, they said better safe than sorry and they do this everytime they install a new tire, but I feel the same as you,but then I start with the what if's,so I'll probley go the dealers route.
In a word no. Some shops (MOCO) will not change it without a new tube or won't guarantee thier work but my local independent wrench will. If the tube isn't punctured there's no need to change it.It's pretty well protected sealed inside the tire how could it wear out?
Doesn't matter how good your tire is, if the tube pops you got a flat. I always change my tubes. I'm surprised you can get a shop that will reuse the old tube. I think there is some liability involved. Now for the do yoursefers?
I change my tube every 3 tire changes or 2 years with a tire change, which ever comes first. Most people I know call me an idiot and say I should change them every time I change the tire. Whatever.
Change 'em every time. Tubes DO wear out; they are subject to friction from tire flex as the tire rolls
as well as chemical aging of the rubber. Doesn't happen fast if properly installed, but it happens.
Tubes are a lot more flexible than tires and unlike the tire their protected from the uv. I personally wouldn't change a tube thats only 10 months old.
Over the last 55+ years of riding I probably haven't baught more than 7 tubes. The only time I get real worried is if they are stuck to the inside of the rim to the rim strip or rusted to the rim, other than that, they are probably good for 3 or 4 tires. I don't run patched tubes anymore though unless I absolutely have to. Ran them all the time back in the 50s when flats happened two or three times a year. They also used vulcanized or hot patches back then. Liability is a bunch of hockey puck, just trying to take away individual responsibility. Someone has always got to be at fault besides the smuck, right? Follow your own judgement, if you run constantly over 70 miles per hr, you can get a lot of heat build up and that does hurt tubes. In the wind.
