I wan't do do a cam swap this winter wondering who has done it and what r the best cams to use I dont want anything to radical don't want to F*** up reliability
I went with SE 255's in my 103 upgrade and high compression pistons. I was more interested in torque than top end HP. I am very happy with the results.
So I am glad this came up again.
I am thinking of doing cams too.
I figure I am going to do tensioners anyway and I want to change up my stage 1 when I get it so I may as well do cams while I am at it and be done for a season or two.
I dont want to make it a racer but optimize the torque for the ranges I need it in.
I dont really know though what makes one cam good and one not, or why they perform differently.
I would like to learn a lot more about them to understand how it works, why it shifts the torque around and how.
So when I decide to buy cams I know why I am buying one rather than just because I saw a lot of people saying they bought them.
I keep hearing 225's and 255's, also I hear a lot of SE or woods.
Can you help me understand a little more about cams and what to look for and why?
I know cam threads come up a lot but I figure this would be a good opportunity to learn something new.
I have a 103" the previous owner put a big sucka air kit and pulled the baffles, I plan to go with a new set of pipes, and a dual conicle or cone air kit for maximum air intake.
I am hearing a 2 in 1 pipe will provide more low end torque over a true duals, which I like the look of better.
I also heard that true duals with the crossover is also better as the crossover helps pull air and provides more torque.
So I am going to try and find the best combo, to go with my air mod, best pipes to pull torque and then cams to compliment the stage 1.
Andrews 48 cams would be my choice on a stock motor.
Andrews 48H. They are for stock compression engine and make very good power. You would be very happy with them.
I went with SE 255's in my 103 upgrade and high compression pistons. I was more interested in torque than top end HP. I am very happy with the results.
So what about the high compression pistons, are they a necessary addition to these cams in a 103 or are you just grabbing every ounce of torque you can?
Is it that too much compression without compression release valves with these cams would be bad?
I would prefer to not go too far and have issues later or need the compression release.
On a bone stock 103 can I just go cams and stage one and expect any gains in torque?
I think Im looking more for mid range torque, when I need to pass with a passenger on and bags full, etc..
So how do I determine if 48's or 225's or 255's etc would be best for me with this stock 103?
