some of you may have seen my thread about my sportster that the dealer bought back, and today i have had an appointment scheduled with my dealer to get my special order parts installed under warranty and i ride to work this morning and look under my dyna and see about a half dollar size spot of oil on the ground directly underneath the bike and take a peek under to see if i can see where its coming from, come to find out it looks like my clutch cable is leaking. the loom around the cable is covered in what looks like to be oil or trans fluid. plus the oil pan and frame are covered in it what the hell why cant i catch a brake and lust get a new bike to ride without issues? sorry for the long post but it just erks me that this is twice now and with just under 3000 mi on the dyna and 354 mi on the sporty
Well at least you have a back-up! The clutch cable thing is normal but not after 3000 m. should be more like 30,000 for that job. I'm sure it's just co-incidence or hoodoo! My first summer with my '08 I had to have them change my crankcase covers! Man was I pissed!
Don't feel bad I lost 2 whole seasons fir warranty issues on my 07 had bad ECM wire broken injector pc3 that was "shorted" but for some reason works fine now and 2 intake gaskets 3 base gaskets and a new crank case. Oh and a clutch cable fir the same issue your having. You'll be alright have it fixed, at least it's happening now and not summer. In the words of the wisest man I know "my dad" just ride the f$&?!-@g thing or put stabilizer in it and park it.

Not to high jack but why did they have to replace your covers? They replaced my case due to "milling issues"
milling issues seem to be a big issues with harley as of lately i have seen a couple bikes that have had to have covers replaced and even an engine due to cylinder bases not milled correctly and leaking
Clutch cable leak is pretty bizarre if you think about it ...
The stock clutch pull mechanism is a cable ... the cable has an O-ring where it goes into the transmission cover (which has a gasket seal against the case) ...
The transmission fluid should not normally flood the spaces within the trans cover ... (it is possible some fluid will ... same as it will come out the drive shaft into the clutch basket on the primary side) ...
However, in any event, as the transmission fluid leaks off the excess, it should stop leaking ... where it is accumulating on the clutch cable seems to indicate to me a bad O-ring seating/insertion ...
Another possibility is some oil has gotten on the cable from an oil change or something ... dribbled down from the fill spout maybe ...?
In any event, hopefully not a significant problem ... at least if it is under warranty, you are only out the riding time (as opposed to being out the cash to fix it) ... but, you being in Ohio will never get that riding time back (and are near/at the end of your riding season) ...
