Those type of intersections I dislike the most, because you never know what they are going to do and you are so close it doesn't give a man much room for escape.

I agree. My thought is that it's because we're not a moving object relative to their perspective.
I have started doing mild S-turns in my lane when I see someone roll up on a side street. I figure that my lateral motion will help them see me.
Good to hear your "OK". I've been down a few times and it amazes my how fast I jumped up to see if I was alive and if the bike was hurt. Now you can let the insurance company put dual disc's on your bike. Like the phone records thing.

Came on an intersection the other day like you did. Looked this lady right in the eyes and she still pulled out and turned right in front of me. I swerved and missed her but dammmmm. You just never know what they are going to do.
Just a word of caution on the insurance side. Be wary of any calls from the other guy's insurance company. When they innocently ask "How are you today?"... STOP and remember the word "pain". They are definitely recording the conversation.
I work in Houston, but live by the OP, and I'll tell you that I ride to work every day, and 59 during rush hour is crazy. Sometimes when I get home or to work, I sit back and think about how many near misses I had on the ride to work. It can get scary.
