Riding in to work this morning. Heading south on 55 mph road, as I approached an intersection, I noticed a car stopped at the stop sign, I slowed down to about 45 and as soon as I was entering the intersection, the car pulls out in front of me. I swerve left but it was not enough so I hit my brakes. I hit the front end of the car and I think I went over the handlebars before going into a slide on the left side of my body. I felt my bike sliding behind me. Came to a stop and I immediately get up and did a once over making sure no bones sticking out. I limped over to the stop sign island before the pain hit me hard and I laid down. Driver came up saying "I did not see you, I did not see you" I told him to call 911 and he was shaking so bad he could not even dial his phone. So I'm laying down and had to call 911 myself. I was put on a backboard for precautions and taken to the closest ER. They took x-rays and scanned my neck, head and abdomen. No broken bones and no internal bleeding. I'm very lucky. I'm sore all over and hurts like hell to sneeze. Anyway, one thing I'd like to say is that this morning, I wore my full face helmet because it was 60 degrees. The damaged area was next to my left temple where the visor connects to the helmet. I don't know how much more protection it gave me if I was wearing my half helmet, but I'm glad I chose it this morning.
Here are some pics of my Wide Glide.
Sorry to hear about your accident. It seems like you just can’t be careful enough out there. BL, the important thing is that you survived. Don’t stress about the bike, they can be fixed or replaced.
This morning was dangerous with wet leaves all over the road.
First intersection slid the rear a bit. Slowed way down the rest of the way in.
When I come to an intersection I like to get their attention by hitting the throttle a bit to wake them up with the exhaust. Works.
