fastbydrmike, I think I may have the same lift as you, I got mine at Harbor frieght too. I looked at the sears web site, and they have 2 lifts, one for about $90 and the other $170.
The $70 one is taken a beating in the customer reviews, they say its not worth a darn. Now the other one is getting good reviews, but it costs twice as much, but I got a $20,000 bike so I should not be a cheap-skate when it comes to lifting it off the ground, and trusting it with my ride.
Have you actually used yours yet, any problems. I have not even taken mine out of the box yet, and if I don't hear any good news about it, I will take it back and spend a little more money and get something I can trust.
I bought the cheap one at sears and then brought it back before i opened it after reading horror stories about bolts shearing, etc. Got me paranoid but really have no idea on the validity of these statements. The more expensive "yellow" one is pretty easy to operate, and I have no issues with it. One thing that is different is that because of the way they are constructed I believe the jiffy stand must be in the up position with the more expensive jack, but I don't think this is the case with the cheaper one. I can sit on my bike and crank it up until it starts to level out - then as DGlide04 mentioned, I slip the small support in place and I'm good to go. I would think if you have short arms and or legs it might be difficult to reach and pump arm while sitting on the bike?
I also have no idea why HD did not make the odd support so it snaps on the the welded bracket - I think I'm going to modify mine a bit so it stays in place before I start jacking.
I checked out the "yellow" jack on the sears web site, its made out of aluminum. Have you had any issues with this jack, does it hold the bike well? I may go take a look at it in the store. Or I may just wait until next weekend when the bike show comes to town and see if I can get a good deal on something there....

Yes I have used it but I need the adapter kit for sure to make my bike more stable while lifted. I ordered the parts to go on the frame and that should help and make it solid after I get my straps on the bike. This is probably the same lift you have but it is steel, not aluminum. It is rated to lift 1500 lbs so I am not concerned with the weight of my bikes. It feels of good quality and before purchasing I had many people on this forum recommend this lift. I will make it work for my limited service needs.
I have the same yellow Craftsman lift and a 2007 Street Bob. I have yet to get my bike in the air because I don't have the "frame extensions." I've learned on this forum that the correct part number in the Big H/D cat. is 98965-99 on page 834, sells for $21.95. I'll be going by the H/D dealer later this afternoon to pick-up a set of frame extensions, at which point I'll try to get airborne. I saw a part number in an earlier reply to your original question. What is that part do?
I too have a lift I haven't used yet because of the dyna adaptors. My local Harley dealer told me the adaptors won't work with any other lift than the Harley lift itself. I called his BS on that! I may still order those adaptors. Anyway, does a person slide the lift under the bike from the kickstand side or from the high side? Or doesn't it matter??
i bought from the jack from harbor frieght. but with that peice that hangs down to protect the tranny on the right side. you havta use something to match.the blocks i bought thru the dealer has habit of trying to turn on ya.i just found the 2x4 work perfect.i think i paid like 50.00 bucks for the jack. and i first bought it i still had my sportster.
I was told to jack from the side oppisite the kickstand. But what do I know, my "jacks still in the box" ok, sorry for that, coundn't help myself....
Getting back on the serious side, you would want to jack from the high side, that way it lifts the low side(kickstand side)up, until both sides are even, then it starts lifting off the ground. It seems like if you went from the stand side, you might just dump the bike in your lap.
I just installed powder coated stuff on my bike. The bike was on the jack for 2 weeks and it never moved. I bought the yellow craftman mainly due to the weight. The red one weighed a Freaking ton. The Yellow one weighs maybe 40 lbs. I bought the adapters too and didn't use them on my 07 Street bob. You can see the 3 or 4 little jack tabs under the frame. My only problem was the kick stand was in the way I jacked it up with the kickstand up. It was pressed agaist the frame. Next time I will leave the Kickstand down and then jack it up. I came in from the right side. I think the adapters would have helped the kickstand issue but the bike seemed stable. I used the tie downs. I think it's a 2 person job I'm sure others can do it by themselves but I just don't want to take a chance with a new bike. If you do get the Harbour Freight one make sure it has a elevation lock like the craftsman.
I was holding the bike on the left side and my buddy was installing the jack. I think it was a tight fit to get the jack under the bike with the adapters. I don't know.... I was just going along with him since he has a Heritage and works on his bike I figured he knew what he was doing. We did use the one they thin one under the tranny guard.
