So when the bike is cold, it starts up almost right away, but after riding it around and the engine is hot, if the bike is parked, I walk away to do what ever it is that I need to do. When I return, hit the start button, and it sounds like it wants to start, but it wont until I give the throttle a small twist, and the bike roars to life like an angry dragon.
I had to order the service manual cause they didnt have any at the stealership. The attendant told me it will be at least two weeks before I get it. So till then, any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for the help.
I guess more info is good! Ihave an 07 FXDC, no key, uses a fob. I always hold in the clutch, I don't believe the light is always telling the truth. After the fuel pump primes then I hit the start button. I have been warned against doing otherwise. It seems odd to me. No one else has experienced this? Oh service manual, hurry and be delivered!
My 06 Wg used to do it, start hard when hot but not letting the fuel pump energize does the trick. I don't know who warned you about not doing that but it's not a diesel truck so no harm.
My Ultra is a picky-bitch. When cold, I'll hit the run switch and count 1 second and then hit the start button and she fires right up. Too quick or too much of a delay after the run switch and it is hard to start.
When its hot after a good ride, I have to hit the start button immediately after I flick the run switch or it will be a bitch and either won't want to start or run really rough for a bit.
I think each bike has its own personality and you just have to figure out all their little quirks.
if its FI, hard starting could be a sign of a clogged fuel filter and possibly a failing fuel pressure regulator. went through 2 regulators due to failure and a clogged filter that gave me really infuriating ride-ability issues until it was replaced. that was on my old 96b powered fatboy. Those needed replcement every 10-15k. i had 35k on it when I traded it in!
I read in the owners manual of the 2012 Dyna's that the fuel filters dont need to be replaced nearly as often. Intervals seem more like a modern car.
