Jot a real good deal on a SE 103 kit a bit ago, decided to get the pistons, cylinders and rings checked before installing them and it is a good thing I did. Yesterday I heard back from the shop I left them at, said they were .0017" to about 2/3 depth, then lost all clearance in the bottom third. In cleaning that up the p/w is at .0023-.0025 with no more taper. Spec sheet on the pistons (21966-07) calls for p/w clearance of 0.0006-0.0017 in. with a service limit of .005
Dimension on the spec sheet does sound pretty tight and it it still a ways to go before the service limit.
Any thoughts if this is ok?
Unless youre looking to squeeze every drop of power out of the set, then youre within spec and you can run them. Just make sure you set the ring gaps.
MOCO kits arent know for being the straightest in town, but are good enough for most people to run and you'll still get a lot of mileage out of them
