Default nut size.

can anyone tell me what size socket i need to remove the nut from the top of the fork tube on a 2010 fxdwg?
i need to drop my progressive springs in, and i havent got a socket big enough. i need to go out and buy one, but i dont know the size. thanks.

35mm or 1 3/8".

I usually wrap the flats with some blue painters tape once around. 1) to protect the chrome 2) makes a nice snug fit so I can control it a little better when the threads let loose.

I found the socket at auto-zone if I remember.

ya wrap it with painters tape, also the metric fits better than the standard socket

1 3/8" is the correct size for the fork tube caps.

I have the standard and the metric socket.
The metric is a much better fit

Well hell... learn sumtin all the time..i've been using a 36mm...it did have a little wiggle...LOL...

That;s because its 35mm, not 1-3/8".......its close but not quite. I think Jim's is the only one making a 35mm socket for it unless you use a standard 35mm 6point socket, the only real reason for those lo profile ones is to clear the handlebars so if you don't mind moving them it will save quite a bit.
